Few Questions... need advice.!!

What's the earliest you can start cereal in a bottle? and does it really help babies sleep longer??

I am have a 3 month old is he too young too let him CIO?
He's only sleeping a 3-4 hr stretch at night and then up every 2 hours.
Everytime his pacifier falls out he screams and I have to run in there 100 times.... Should I not swaddle him anymore and let him CIO? Then maybe he will find his thumb..HELP!!
Any advice would be appreciated.

Iam going back to work next Thursday and worried about sleep deprivation

Our ped told us the cereal in a bottle won't help them sleep longer so we never did it.

IMO, anything before 6 mos is too young to let them CIO. Before 6 mos, they are still establishing trust and the only way they can get your attention is to cry.

When DS's pacifyer would fall out, we'd wait a minute or two just to see if he really needed it. 99% of the time, he fell back asleep without it.

DS never liked being swaddled to I have no advice in that area.

Re: Few Questions... need advice.!!

Everyone is different but this is just my opinion...

I wouldn't put cereal in a bottle just to make the baby sleep longer

Its normal for them to be up that often during the night, I might not do CIO until he is sleeping more like 5 or 6 hrs at a clip/when he is older...and I'd only let him cry for a few mins, maybe 5 minutes.

I went thru the paci thing...but when he was sleeping longer streches. He may not be ready to sleep longer than 3-4 hrs yet

If he can sleep w/o being swaddled, I wouldn't swaddle. I never did (except maybe for liek the 1st week he was home) and I was glad I didn't b/c I never had to worry about DS adjusting to not being swaddled anymore.

Sleep deprivation comes w/having a baby. Sorry! Chat Icon

Re: Few Questions... need advice.!!

You should not put cereal in a bottle unless it is for a medical reason such as an Ped Rx for reflux.
That is a very old parenting thing - from when we were kids.
Babies should avoid solid food for months...5-6 months is the rec'd time to start cereal and other solids now. There is a lot of research that shows that early introduction to food can increase risks for food allergy and other problems.
Molly was 5 months old before she slept thru the night... if your baby is sleeping 5 hours at a time than that is considered thru the night.
I would not do CIO for a young baby. A young baby needs to know that you are there and don't cry to get their way.

He's not a big eater during the day, about 3-4 oz every 3 hours and at night about 4-5 oz before bed.

Re: Few Questions... need advice.!!

I definitely wouldn't do CIO.

i'd keep him swaddled if that works for you. I know it's a necessity for us or he's up every 2 hours.

I wish i had some advice for you, but i don't. My son isn't really into the pacifier, so he's not dependent on it. Although sometimes when he takes it and he s u c k s so hard, i know it's because he's still hungry. Maybe see if there's anyway you can get him to eat more during the day. ???

I also have a 3 month old. Once in a while she wakes up in the middle of the night-I usually wait up to 15 mins because she never really screams and cries, its more of a whine and she goes back to sleep on her own.
I haven't swaddled DD since she started going in her crib at 6 weeks...I just put her in there and i have one of those sleep positioners that has two little foam things that keep her in the middle.
She takes the paci, but never cries for it. Soemtimes I hear her sucking her fingers if she wakes up.

What time do you put him down for the night?

A 3 month old baby is not going to sleep more than a few hours they have little tummies and have to eat every 2 - 3 hours anyway.

Not necessarily true. Some babies sleep through the night at 5 weeks, some at 11 weeks and some get up once a night, twice or even three. It all depends on the child.

My ds drinks about 5 oz at a feeding. He goes to bed at 8pm and wakes around 2:30. He goes down at 3am and wakes around 6-6:30.

have you tried a noise machine? does your dc use the pacifier when napping too?

Yes, we have a noise machine and yes he uses his pacifier during naps. Last night I tried to keep him unswaddled Chat Icon he was squirming and grunting for hours and then eventually crying....
He falls asleep anywhere from 6pm- 8:00pm everynight.

Thanks for everyone's input
