F*ing H.P.V. I need a biopsy:: SMALL UPDATE AT TOP:::
So about 6 years ago I was daignosed with HPV. I had a biopsy and a LEEP.
Went every 6 months for pap smear. I have been free and clear.
So went to the doc to make sure everything was good to start TTC. I just got an abnormal PAP and now have to go for another biopsy.
Which, I'm SURE will lead to ANOTHER LEEP.
Sucks. Balls. Just had to vent. Trying to gets pregs is hard enough. I need this?
Thanks for listening. Anyone have any experience?
**Update** Well I went on Saturday for the biopsy. The doctor found out I was in the 2WW and sent me home!
She said the biopsy could interfere with any kind of fragile bond the zygot is (would be) making if I was PG and its best to NOT disturb anything.
So I have an appointment next week for after AF arrives (or doesent!! ) and we will go from there.
So its sit and wait right now.
Thansk for all the nice words ladies. It HAS really helped.

Re: F*ing H.P.V. I need a biopsy
I was dx with HPV after a pap last October, I had to go back for a colposcopyin Dec and the results showed that i had minor cell change-- the doctor recommended not doing any procedures and just keeping an eye on it and going back for paps every 3-4 months. He basically said the new school of thought (this may depend on doctor, and also may be diff than what it was 6 years ago) was to leave it alone if the cell changes are minor and just monitor. Thats what I did- I knew we wanted to start TTC soon, and I didnt want to risk scarring etc from a removal procedure esp if it wasnt even recommended and the doc didnt feel it was necessary. When I went back for my next pap this past March- unknown to me- I was already pregnant (got the BFP 4 days later) and the pap results showed no change since the one in nov.
Perhaps your doc wont recommend a leep after all.

Re: F*ing H.P.V. I need a biopsy
Thanks Ladies. Your advice is great.
Tell all your friends. Tell EVERY woman you know about HPV. TELL them to make SURE they get pap's every year.
Thank G-d there is a vaccine for this now.
Dont let your girlfriends miss an exam.
I will update. I have the biopsy on Saturday.

Re: F*ing H.P.V. I need a biopsy
I think I had a LEEP procedure done about 8 years ago, after an abnormal pap. It was in my OBGYN's office and I remember smelling something burn, I am guessing that is what the leep is. I was young and really not interested, so I did not really pay attention to what the doc told me. I just freaked out because of the abnormal pap.

Are we living parallel lives!?!?! The same exact thing happened to me last visit! I go in two weeks! The worse part is that I will be ovulating that week how long until you can ? Also do they always biopsy when they do a colposcopy?

Re: F*ing H.P.V. I need a biopsy
There's a whole algorhythm for the latest recommendations on abnl paps and they are much diff than yrs ago.
1st see what the colp and bx show. Hopefully they're neg and your next step is just rpt pap.
BTW 90% of women have HPV, however it doesn't always "come out", it stays latent. Kinda like chicken pox virus. Stays in our bodies forever and MAYBE one day it will come out and say hello in the form of the popular virus that we know of as Shingles. KWIM? It can come and go showing up on paps, creating abnormal cervical cells then back to normal again throughout our lives. This is why we need to get our periodic screening paps.
And vaccinate our children!
..just some food for thought

Re: F*ing H.P.V. I need a biopsy
I was told I had HPV the summer I was 18 (yay )...I never had a Leep but I swear..the more you keep on it, the better it will be. It will be ten years this summer and the doctors always tell me that if you are in tune with your body and keep up with appointments, you will be ok. I wish you the best of luck!

You may not have to LEEP. I have colp and cryosurgery, then 2 colps. Both times after cryo they were able to take everything just doing the colp. I know its hard not to get upset, but think positive FM me if you wanna talk

p.s. I don't know if you or DH are a smoker... but if either of you are quit....It stirs the virus and wakes it up pretty much. Something from the cigarettes stay is the sperm and its not good for the HPV virus. Eat alot of spinach too... it helps keep it dormant "they" say.

I actually eat a LOT of spinache actually. I LOVE it.
And DH and I are NOT smokers. I would never even DATE a smoker.
You all have given me very interesting things to ask the doctor tomorrow. I'm not a stupid girl but DUH! Technology must have changed in the last 6 years. Maybe they do things differnet now and NOT just do a LEEP.
But the doctor said stress, a change in diet, weight, other things can contribute to it coming out. I have gained about 12 lbs in the past 16 months (since I have been married.) Gives a new meaning to being "Fat and Happy".
But she is a REALLY good doctor (Dr DelRosario in Huntington) and makes me feel she gets in and will make sure I'm taken care of.
Its funny. Im not worried about cancer. I have no reason to be. Its caught and will be taken care of (plus this is JUST abnormal and pre-cancerous). My question is did I give it to DH. And I if I did, can he give it back to me? Can HE get shingles or genital warts?
AND, what are the chances of him giving it back to me?
I know 70% of people have HPV. But I still feel very guilty.

The good thing is, it won't be cancer cause you take care of it... but it is stressful and annoying and upsetting either way. Yes, you probably did give it to him, but he will never show signs and he really can't be tested. He can't pass it back and forth, cause once you have it, you always have it, the virus just becomes inactive (which is what you want) and can become active. stress unfortunately is something that can trigger it too. I was dormant for a year or so when it became active again... its really stinks. But think positive, its been dormant a while and I plan to keep it that way... hopefully just thinking positive will do that
I know that guilt feeling, I had problems with it when Dh and I started dating and told him... he was great about it and it really does not effect men (only that they can spred it). But he is your Dh, so you don't have to worry about that. Keep your chin up, sending you lots of hugs!

Re: F*ing H.P.V. I need a biopsy
wow makes me feel better that im not the only one here. my gyn told me to put ttc#2 on hold for now.
Here is my story i found out i had hpv 3 years ago.... had paps every 3 months, ended up having a colopscopy about 2.5 years ago. later i got pregnant. after i had DD, i had another abnormal pap, colposcopy(biopsy), and i had the cyrosurgery because they were lowgrade preprecancerous cells. i was going back for a year (every 3 months) with normal paps., well i had an abnormal pap in january, went for biopsy (colpo) in april. and it came back as high grade and my gyn said its not cancer but sent me to a gyn oncologist and i am freeking out. i have an appt this tuesday.
Is the LEEP procedure really bad? Im wondering now after reading all this, if you ladies had the LEEP procedure in your doctors office, why is my sending me to a onco gyn

Re: F*ing H.P.V. I need a biopsy
also after the LEEP, you cant be pregnant because of the scar tissue in the cervix right? What a bummer

Re: F*ing H.P.V. I need a biopsy
I'm sure that your DH already had it before he met you!
Gyns usually send these things to gyn oncs for 2nd opinion from a specialist. I used to work for a gyn onc, we saw these cases ALL the time. And his words "If you didn't have HPV, you're not getting out enough" It was very cute the way that he said it. It was to make the patient feel better, not said insensitively.
Men do have cases of penile and pharyngeal cancer secondary to HPV infection, but not so common. They basically are the spreaders.
One more thing, when I mentioned Shingles previously, I was just giving an example of Chicken Pox -> Shingles. You cannot get shingles from HPV, totally different virus.
