*Finishing a basement ... need advice!
Hi Everyone
My husband and I want to finish our basement ... what do we need to do BEFORE the cosmetic works starts?
Does anyone not have a dropdown ceiling?
I saw in my friends house today that they sheetrocked the entire ceiling except for the perimeter which was dropdown. It looks great!
Any ideas?!!!

Before we started...we cleaned down the walls with bleach and water. (in case there was any mold) Fixed all leaks and made sure there would be no new ones. We also installed new windows b/c the ones that were there were OLD SCHOOL. Make sure you decide on layout, where you want lighting, what kind of lighting? Closet, do you need one, can you make one? (we added one under the stairs)
We did not have a drop down ceiling but made one.....
I can upload some pics if you'd like?

That would be great!! Pics would be really helpful. I'd like to out closets along one wall or in one corner ... and disguise the laundry area nicely but still keep it functional! Thanks for your reply!!

Re: *Finishing a basement ... need advice!
We corrected any moisture problems we had and sealed the walls with this tar stuff.
Then we framed and rocked. I have a sheetrocked ceiling. We built in 2 small access closets for pluming and electrical access.
My laundry room is unfinished and that's where most of the plumbing is and boiler etc.
Here is the kitchen
This is standing in the kitchen stairs are on the right looking into the play room.
This is standing in the play room. Laundry room on left, stairs, guest bedroom/sitting room and bathroom straight ahead is the office.
I don't thin the pics are working. I uploaded them into my "house" album.

Re: *Finishing a basement ... need advice!
This was a small project that blossomed for us. It was already finished, but poorly. We ended up just ripping all sheetrock down. We dry-locked the basement walls, re-sheet rocked, painted with mold & mildew film and then painted. New windows, crown molding, baseboard. When the $ comes back, I will put a hanging curtain track (like in the hospital)) around the laundry so that is it out of sight.

We didn't do any prep work except clean it out
We def could not have a drop down ceiling because our ceilings are already really low. We did have the ceilings sheetrocked and then cut outs made where the pipes were we needed to get to.
