First 5K ever....need advice please!

I have my first ever 5K coming up in about a week Chat Icon and I have no idea what I should be doing to prepare....suggestions?

I'm going to try to get in 3 runs this week...and not run the day before so my body will be prepared...but not too tired.

What do I wear?
What should I bring (if anything?)
Is there anything I should be doing?

wear a running outfit that you enjoy training in. If you don't mind leaving an old T-shirt at the start you can wear that for a bit of warmth and take it off at the start. If it's a loop race (start/end in same place), I will note where I left my sweatshirt and pick it up later.

You really don't need to bring anything besides the bib (with safety pins) and a chip if any (most races don't use chips anymore) - and this is only if you have picked up your number early. I have a belt that holds my phone, a tiny bit of cash, etc, but you don't need to. If you have to, take just the key to open your car door.

Any runs this week should be easy/light.

When you line up for the start, PLEASE be honest about your time. My biggest race pet peeve is the people inching up to the 7 min/mile and start the race walking or jogging.

Before the start, you want to take a little jog to warm/loosen up your muscles. You can do some dynamic stretching (non static/holding stretches) - skips, pulling your knee up, butt kicks, etc. There are many studies that say don't stretch before, so this is a matter of preference.

Thank you!

What do you mean about "inching up to the 7 min/mile"?
I've literally never run or watched a race before so I have no idea about anything.

There are mile markers that ask you what minute per mile pace you think you will maintain. Faster runners go to the front, slower toward the back. Some of the faster runners are competetive either with their own times or within their age groups and need to have a clear path. So if you think it will take you 30 minutes or so to finish, you line up at the 10 min/mile marker. :)

This is the MOST annoying thing ever. I was absolutely SHOCKED when I saw this.

I lined up at my appropriate time slot and I had to WEAVE in and out of walkers!

I WAS SO PISSED!!!!!
