Re: first birthday theme
I've started to think about this too. We are going to do either Elmo or Baby Einstein.

Re: first birthday theme
I did Hugs N Stitches and got a #1 shaped hero
and made a cake that sort of matched the colors of the paper goods

Re: first birthday theme
I'm not going to be much help because my daughter was born on the 4th of July, so it was obvious what our theme would be - red white and blue!!! We didn't have any entertainment for her 1st birthday, just a big ol' backyard bbq!!
For her 2nd, we did a Hawaiian Luau theme...also hired entertainment (Little People Entertainment)...puppet show, face painting, balloon animals, Dora character visited
For her 3rd, we did a Princess & Prince theme...hired entertainment for games, dancing, face painting, magic tricks, balloon animals and Belle visited. We have a pool, so we also let the kids swim - BIG MISTAKE. I learned from this party that we will keep the pool closed till after the entertainment leaves!
For her 4th, we did a carnival theme...hired entertainment (Small World Entertainment) for carnival games in a tent (this was a huge hit), sand art, face painting, balloon animals and cotton candy with clowns....
All these parties were in our backyard.
