First weekend of house hunting....
...and we are so confused. Between all the different school districts, taxes, village taxes...ahhhh. lol.
Can someone shed some light on the Garden City area for us?? We heard a lot of things this weekend....Garden City, Garden City South, GC school district, Franklin Square school district, Washington elementary schools, Locust elementary school....***? lol. Is there a certain area we should be avoiding? Each realtor was persuading us to the area they were selling in...so that didn't help our confusion. lol...

Re: First weekend of house hunting....
First off all schools within the Garden City School District are great. Garden City South is not technically Garden City and is zoned for Franklin Square schools (still great). Stewart Manor (which is an area of Garden City) is zoned for Sewhanaka (sp?) HS. Right now Sewhanaka is good but I can see it turning in the future. As stated above, Franklin Square Schools are good, but parts of Franklin Square are not zoned for F. Square schools but for Vally Stream North schools. Like Sewhanaka, V. Stream N. is currently good but I can see this turning in a few years. So, I would stick with areas zoned for Franklin Square and Garden City schools. In order of best to worst schools: Garden City, Franklin Square, Valley Stream North, and Sewhanaka. DH and I always asked which schools the houses were zoned for before seeing the house.

Carey is a part of Franklin Square and is great. It gets confusing because Carey, Sewhanaka HS and Valley Stream North HS are all a part of the Sewhanaka School District. That's why it's important to ask the seller which school the home is zoned for. Best of luck.
