Florence/Rome hotels?
Could you recommend hotels in Rome and Florence? DH and I are meeting some friends in Italy for four days at the end of this month. This is all so last minute, lol.
I've been to Rome twice before and I'd like a hotel by the Spanish Steps. I'm thinking Hotel Barberini. Anyone stayed there? Florence on the other hand, I've never been to. We'd like something centrally located.
Also is it cheaper to buy train tickets when we are there or off the Trenitalia website?
Thanks!

DH and I had a great time. The bartenders up on the top deck were great. We had a drink every night and they made us laugh

Re: Florence/Rome hotels?
Just stayed at the Hotel Balestri in Florence and we LOVED it. It is on the Arno River, next to the Uffizi gallery--which is such a wonderful central location.
Our room had a phenomonal view with a nice large terrace, large marble bath--it was truly beautiful.

Re: Florence/Rome hotels?
Florence is so small you can really stay anyhere and be centrally located. we stayed at a Best Western there and it was pretty cheap!

Re: Florence/Rome hotels?
I can't recommend our Rome hotel as it's not near the Spanish Steps but we stayed at Borghese Palace in Florence... Very cute boutique hotel.

Re: Florence/Rome hotels?
when we honeymooned in Rome..(a tour of europe so we were in different places) we stayed at a placed called PINETA PALACE.
It wasnt too far from the center city (at least if im remembering correctly). however it was about an hour drive from the airport in rome.
