Re: flu shot

DH and I both got the flu shot and pertussis vaccine. Why risk it?

Re: flu shot

Why do people think the flu vaccine is a joke? I don't get it...I'm not being snarky, I just wish I knew why.

The flu is not something to mess around with, especially while pregnant. And getting the flu shot while pregnant provides some immunity to your baby, who, as we all know, cannot get a flu shot till they are over 6 months old. And a baby with the flu is not a good thing..Chat Icon

Re: flu shot

I do not think the flu shot is a joke by any means, I just choose not to give it to myself or my family.

Like another poster stated, I feel the risks outweigh the benefit and just because you receive the flu shot does not mean you are in a bubble and can not get the flu.

Knock on wood, I have never gotten the flu and I rarely ever have more then the sniffles. The same goes for my DD and my DH. We wash our hands regularly, live a healthy lifestyle and if we do come in contact with the flu, I am confident that our immune systems can fight it off (though it will suck big time).

flu shot

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and a full time nanny. Last year the family that I work for all got the flu shot. I refused and they came down hard on me. In January I noticed the 7 year old getting sick all he wanted was to be held. So I layed in bed with him all day. Sure enough he had the flu. Passed it to both his parents and his 9 yr old sister. They went to the dr immediately and were treated it still lasted a week. I sanitized everything, made fresh green juice and took my natural remedies. I had no idea at the time but it was also the weekend we conceived. I did not get the flu not even a sniffle. Getting the flu shot does not mean you will not get the flu. It is a personal decision that each person is entitled to make.

I don't think its a joke. I do feel the risks are worth it now that I am pregnant to take the shot. But normally I don't get it and neither does my family unless their health was compromise. The average healthy individual should adequately fight the flu. There weren't flu shots when we were kids and if you got sick you stayed home til you got better. Now if you have health issues and getting the flu could get you very sick then I agree you should take it. Last year dh had heart surgery. He did get the flu shot.
