flu shot for 6 month old
Would my son be getting the flu shot this month if he is going for his 6 month appt? Do we have the option of not giving it? Has anyone not given it and why?

I'm not sure that any peds still have the flu shot as technically it isn't the "season"

Probably not as we're not in flu season. It WILL probably be offered at the 9 month visit though.

No, not in flu season so probably not. But if he was 6 mths old and it was Dec, then yes, it would be offered.

I don't think so. We have our 6 month visit in 2 weeks, I don't expect them to get the flu shot because it isn't flu season. The new batch of flu shots haven't come out yet anyway. I am pretty sure this season's flu vaccine will include something for the H1N1 strain.

No they don't give the flu shot at this time of the year - they don't start until Oct (sometimes end of Sept) - it is just that it isn't recommended until the child is 6 months or older - so expect them to offer it Sept or Oct if not then by Nov.

We opted NOT to get the Flu shot, it is your choice when it is offered.

I have never given it to my kids. I feel like they get enough vaccines and this one only works when it's the right strain. Just my $.02
