Flu shot question....
Someone at work told me that their ped. said that before their DC gets the flu shot they should have eaten eggs already.
Is there truth in that??? I never heard of such a thing. If thats true, why do they have to have eggs?
I thought part of the egg babies couldnt have. Im confused????

Re: Flu shot question....
ds hasn't eaten eggs yet and got his 1st flu shot today.
i think that has something to do with an allergic reaction.

Re: Flu shot question....
From Kids Health:
Anyone who's severely allergic to eggs and egg products (ingredients for flu shots are grown inside eggs, so tell your doctor if your child is allergic to eggs or egg products before he or she gets a flu shot)

Re: Flu shot question....
I think the virus is made in egg or something like that. So if your DC has an egg allergy they can have a reaction.
My ped did not ask me either. I think babies are just supposed to have yolk, I have no idea why. Honestly I give hannah the whole egg scrambled and well cooked.

Re: Flu shot question....
I don't think so, Julia got her first flu shot at 6 months, and she wasn't eating table foods then. She never had a reaction to the flu shot.

Re: Flu shot question....
It is because the flu vaccine is incubated in eggs, so if there is a severe reaction to eggs, there can be one to the vaccine.
My pediatrician asked if we had given eggs yet, and we hadn't. So when DD got the flu shot, we had to wait in the office for 15 minutes to make sure there was no allergy (there wasn't).

Re: Flu shot question....
For those DC who are allergic to eggs, and want a flu shot, there is a shot that is not egg-based. You'll need to ask you Dr. if they have them.
