Flying with a toddler question
DD just does not like to sit still and we have 2 trips coming up where she will be on a plane. The 5 hour trip is the one that is giving me cause for some concern. She gets very ansy even in her carseat - did your DC walk around the plane at all? This kid just needs to be on the go and is now wiggling out of our arms to show her independence.
We will be bringing a DVD player but I know that won't hold her interest the entire flight.
Any tips? TIA

Re: Flying with a toddler question
Oohh... any chance she'll sleep?
The last trip we took in August I let Jake walk around a little but only because there was someone we knew also on our flight and he wanted to say hello. All other flights I didn't allow walking around because I was afraid that's all he'd want to do.
Other than the DVD Player my suggestions are:
-coloring book & crayons -books that you can read to her -a new toy that she does not see or know about until you break it out on the plane when you need it
Good luck!

Re: Flying with a toddler question
She *may* nap - this kid hates sleeping when there is something new going on around her
I do plan on the DVD player, 2 of her most favorite toys and 2 new ones.
I just know I am going to be chasing her all over that plane

Re: Flying with a toddler question
Oh - I feel your pain!
On our 9 hour flight back from Italy - Jack slept for all of an hour
The things that helped me from losing my mind:
DVD Player Ton of Books Lots of snacks (puffs, cookies, etc) Lots of fruit
I have a Sesame Street book where Abby Cadabby reads to him - this was my lifesaver. You can borrow it if you want (I'm serious too - it held his attention for hours!)
I also brought along the Leap Frog Animal Magnet thing - that was also a huge lifesaver. It's little and good entertainment.

OMG - one hour of sleep on a 9 hour flight???
And here I am worried about a flight 4 hours less than that!

Re: Flying with a toddler question
When we flew to FL, we made sure she didn't nap the entire day. So she slept pretty much the entire flight.
On the way back, she watched DVD's and played with Daddy.
She didn't get out of her chair the entire time. Actually they wouldn't have either - it was a little rocky
In all honestly, what everyone suggested is what I would say.
Also another thing we did was let Ali run around in the airport - yes we were exhausted, but so was she before she got on the plane, so I think that helped with wanting to relax.
