Flying with carseat

We are going to Florida With our 8 month old. We will be taking the carseat but not using it on the plane. If we check it at the gate do we need to put it in a bag of some sort? I don't want it to get damaged but I also don't want to lug it through the airport to check it at the gate!

I put it in a bag usually so it doesn't get dirty. They sell Gate Check bags that are like laundry bags at BRU, BBB and on Amazon.

Re: Flying with carseat

we just bought a car seat bag w/ wheels at BRU that we plan to use when we fly

ETA this way we can wheel it through the airport and check it at the gate

I only gate check mine. I do get a bag but I think they treat the gate check stuff slightly (very slightly) better than checking with the luggage. Our bag has backpack type straps and wheels you can drag it.

I would pack it in the box it came in, if you still have it. That is the only safe way for it be be checked with luggage.
