Flying with kids - if you take a limo/hired car to the airport, what do you do about car seats?

We are not bringing our car seats - my kids will be 2.5 and 5.5 and will sit in the airplane seat. So what happens when you get a ride to the airport?

Well this probably doesn't help much - we brought our carseat and then checked it at the airport and used it in the rental car.

my MIL took us in our car and then kept the car at her house all week so she could also pick us up when we got home a week later

We recently flew and brought our carseat in the limo and left it there and the limo picked up back up with the carseat when we returned. They stored the seat at the office. We didn't bring carseat with us. Some cabs have carseats too but who knows how clean they are...

The car company we used had a carseat. We told them we needed it when we booked it.

We ended up having family drive us. DH wasn't comfortable leaving our seats with the company (he was concerned they might lose it or let other people use our seat). We weren't comfortable using their seats - because you don't know the condition of them of if they were in an accident. I'm not sure they are as careful with the safety of the seats as you would be as the parent. Additionally when we called to ask a few companies what kind of a seat they provided the person on the phone couldn't answer that question which made us nervous.

What about driving yourself or having a family member drop you and pick you up with your car? I know some people just take their own seats and check them there and back just to have them - but that seems like a pain to me.
