? fo Peanut Allergy Moms
My DD was about 7 months old I was BF'ing at the time and did not know I was not supposed to eat peanuts. She broke out in a horrible rash from head to toe after our BF session that lasted for about 2 days. Since then we became a peanut free household and recently after her 1 year checkup I had a food allergy panel run on her. The bloodwork came back fine, Dr. said no IGG to peanuts showed up and that she was fine & I didn't need to follow up with an allergist....but I'm still nervous after speaking to some other moms they insisted that a skin test was more accurate and that the bloodwork isn't always accurate. I don't want to find out she is allergic the wrong way... IF any peanut allergy moms could share their stories or give me input on WWYD I would appreciate it. And do I have to worry about here having a terrible reaction to a skin test I know how scary peanut allergies are ( my nephew has one). THanks

The skin and blood tests should be about the same. You don't really have to worry about a bad reaction from the skin test because the blood test came out normal and the dr should have an epi pen in the office.
Honesty, I still would not give peanuts until after 4 years old.

Sash was just diagnosed with tree nut allergy. We had some nuts on a table, and she must have had one-- and had a reaction. We did a skin test, which the allergist said was more accurate than blood test. She is not allergic to peanuts or almonds- but basically every other nut they tested her for in the tree nut category. I would find a good allergist and follow up. Better to be safe and ease your mind.

I ate peanut butter all through both pregnancies and while I breastfed both of them the entire year! and they are not allergic to peanuts!
are you sure the rash was from you eating peanuts...could it have been from something else? esp since the peanut test came back negative?!?!

Re: ? fo Peanut Allergy Moms
For us, the skin tests were much more accurate in determining what DS was allergic to and the severity of it.
We didn't realize he had any allergies until his first reaction- to a mosquito bite. His face swelled up to twice the size and he couldn't open his eyes. We were referred to an allergist and had the blood work done first. My son had a lot of false positives, and the allergist wanted to do the skin test because he said it can be much more accurate.
We did a skin test and it wasn't that bad. The skin pricking didn't really hurt, the hardest part was keeping his hands off of it for the 20 minutes. For the skin test the severity of the allergy is measured as well, the scale is 0-6, 6 being the most severe. My son's mosquito allergy was rated a 3, his peanut and tree nut allergy is a 6. I hate to think of what would have happened if the first allergic reaction he had was due to nuts.
Good luck finding the answers you need, and if you need any food allergy tips feel free to FM me.

Thank you ladies...I think I'm definitely going to follow up with the skin test to be sure.
