HELP! Peanut Allergy Moms
Robbie has a child on his team that has a severe (airborne) peanut allergy. What kind of snacks can I offer that won't be harmful?
I was going to do an Edible Arrangements Chocolate Dipped Strawberries - but I don't know if that would be good. Any ideas?

How about some fruit like cantaloupe or honeydew cut up? You could also ask the child's parents what snacks are safe for him to have. I would most likely go this route.

I don't know if the chocolate dipping is a good idea because I know Hersheys Chocolate processes their chocolate on machines that also process nuts. Who knows what chocolate Edible uses? My niece can't eat most chocolates.

Re: HELP! Peanut Allergy Moms
-fruit like orange slices, apple slices, carrot sticks, etc
-saltines or plain crackers
-animal crackers
Wait, is this for snacks for a sports team? Ediable Arrangements is very expensive just so you know, plus kinda fancy for a team event for kids.

I'm not sure what this is for, but anything premade or store bought he won't be able to eat.
My suggestion - homemade brownies, homemade cookies (not the premade ones, but the ones in packages in the brownie isle). Fresh fruit - things like that.

Nice idea, but I wouldn't let Ava eat it. The only chocolate that she can eat are Hersey Kisses or a plain Hershey Bar.
It is because many chocolate products are processed in plants that also process peanut products.
You could do plain fruit. Another big hit with all of the kids that is also safe is Rice Krispy Treats.
HTH
ETA I just read the above posts.
I have not found any animal crackers that Ava can eat.
I don't let her eat home made cookies, brownies or cakes unless I made them myself. You need to read each box of cake mix or icing. Our allergist says there usually is no "safe" brand. It can vary depending on the plant that the product is made in. As far as cookies, same thing, you have to read each package.
As far as chocolate. Hershey's kisses and plain chocolate bars are safe, but you don't know what kind of chocolate was used on the strawberries.
Also, no Dunkin Donuts/Carvel/Entemanns.
I know, it is such a head ache. As a Mom of an allergic child, I ALWAYS have a special treat that she can have when we are at a party/event. So maybe, his Mom will have something for him.

I agree... ask the parents... and suggest the rice krispy bars. I bet they'd be more comfortable with a prepackaged one that they knew already was not made near peanuts rather than a homemade version... afterall, your kitchen has/had peanuts!

Re: HELP! Peanut Allergy Moms
Thanks All!
I actually called Edible Arrangements and they said that the fruit is dipped near nuts - so that was out before it was even in! (I know they are kind of expensive but I get an arrangement for Robbie every year for his bday and they have the CUTEST Baseball vase!)
I am so grateful for your responses and absolutely in awe of you wonderful ladies that work so diligently to keep your kids safe.. I didn't realize how many 'off limits' items there are out there!
I don't have time to make anything (plus as pointed out) my kitchen has had nuts in it as recently as today! I think I will just have to make a trip to the store and read the snack packages. I love the idea of the Rice Krispies Treats.. I hope the packaged kind says peanut free!
