Food for baby shower
I'm hosting a BBQ type baby shower for my good friend on Saturday. Problem is, invitations said it would be a backyard BBQ party, but we don't eat, or cook meat. So this is my food list - we're having 26 people - is this enough? Should I add anything else?
Grilled Salmon Grilled shrimp and veggie kabobs Potato salad Egg salad Israeli salad Hummus Guacamole Salsa Chips Tostitos Pita
For drinks: Corona Mike's hard lemonade Soda Non-alcoholic lemonade
For desserts: Cupcakes Fruit salad Cookies Cake

Re: Food for baby shower
It sounds absolutely delicious to me but I would maybe add in some pasta or potato salad for those who don't eat fish or seafood. The sides as they are wouldn't really be hearty enough for a meal for those folks.
ETS: I just came back to read your delicious menu again and realized you said potato salad. I'd still add a pasta and/or macaroni salad as well.

Re: Food for baby shower
As someone who is allergic to fish, I would appreciate some sort of pasta or since you don't cook meat, maybe you could provide a cold cut platter?

Re: Food for baby shower
Nope, we don't serve meat in our house, not an option, and unfortunately no one else was able to host the party.
But, you bring up a good point, so I'll find some kind of pasta dish to make, either eggplant parmesan or something like that.
Thanks!

Re: Food for baby shower
It sounds good but I wouldn't eat a thing except chips. I don't eat any seafood nor do I eat mayo salads. I would add a chicken dish and pasta dish.

Re: Food for baby shower
Is it just red meat that you do not serve? What about chicken? If not, I would def. do a pasta dish of some sort.

Re: Food for baby shower
No kind of meat, including turkey, chicken, etc, so I will make sure we have plenty of side salads, and will make at least 2 pasta dishes to accomodate the people who don't eat fish.
Any ideas for pasta dishes? I make a mean eggplant parmesan, but I can't think of anything else. Maybe stuffed shells?

Re: Food for baby shower
I think it depends on how "adventurous" you think the guests are. There are many people who don't eat seafood.
I know you are vegetarian but are you also a kosher household? Would you be able to order some kind of meat dish already made that you can maybe serve on paper plates or something so that it does not have to touch any of your stuff?
If not I would maybe do some baked ziti or something like that - that most people would be ok with. I might even stay away from the eggplant just so you can have a dish for really picky eaters.
Good luck!

Re: Food for baby shower
Ok, so I've decided on making eggplant parmesan AND the baked ziti. And on top of that, we'll have plenty of side salads, including an Israeli salad that doesn't have mayo, and I'm making some grilled vegggie kabobs.
I think that should be good, right?

Re: Food for baby shower
Israeli salad is chopped tomato, cucumber, onion, parsley, mixed with olive oil and lemon. You usually serve it with hummus, which we will have, and pita, which we will also have.
