I truly think the diabetes issue from last year was the first straw but this was now the straw that broke the camel's back. Many people felt lied to and upset that she was showing us howto make such fattening foods when in private she was dealing with adult onset diabetes and had to curb her own diet. She started going downhill then. SO what did she do? Become a drug company rep and her sons started cooking shows about "light meals". Now this and I think people are sick of her.I have to say I started seeing her in a different light and now I really don't know how I feel about her.
That was my exact thought also. Almost like they were looking for a reason to get rid of her, and this was the perfect excuse. I lost a ton of respect for her after the whole Diabetes thing....and I have no patience for racism either. She's got plenty of money already...she can go her own way and enjoy it. I'd rather not have to hear about her anymore.

Re: Food Network to drop Paula Deen
Her publisher just dropped her too! So much for #1 sellers, they will not be printing anymore.....
Paula Deen's publisher has canceled a deal with her for multiple books, including an upcoming cookbook that was the No. 1 seller on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com, following her admission she used a racial slur. Ballantine Books announced Friday it would not release "Paula Deen's New Testament: 250 Favorite Recipes, All Lightened Up," which was scheduled for October and was the first of a five-book deal announced early last year. Interest in it had surged as Deen, who grew up in Albany, Ga., and specializes in Southern comfort food, came under increasing attack for acknowledging she had used the N-word. Ballantine, an imprint of Random House Inc., said it had decided to cancel the book's publication after "careful consideration." It had no comment beyond what was in its brief statement, spokesman Stuart Applebaum said. Later Friday, Deen's literary agent, Janis Donnaud, said that the entire deal had been called off. "I am confident that these books will be published and that we will have a new publisher," said Donnaud, who declined to comment on whether she had heard from other publishers. The trouble for Deen started when comments she made in a court deposition became public. During the deposition in a discrimination lawsuit filed by an ex-employee, Deen admitted using the N-word in the past but denied using it to describe waiters. Deen said she's not a racist during a tearful "Today" show interview but has lost many of her business relationships. Sears Holdings Corp. and J.C. Penney Co. said Friday that they were cutting ties with Deen following similar announcements from Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Target Corp. and Home Depot. Last week, the Food Network said that it would not renew her contract. She also was dropped by Smithfield Foods, Caesars Entertainment stripped her name from restaurants and drug company Novo Nordisk said it was suspending its work with her. Publishers have pulled a wide range of books over the years, usually because of plagiarism, fabrications or other issues with the books themselves. Ballantine's decision highlights a problem for Deen even when the product itself has not been challenged and is in high demand. Some outlets that might have sold her books, such as Target and Wal-Mart, have cut ties with her. Other stores likely would have been reluctant to promote her new book or to invite her for personal appearances. Because "Paula Deen's New Testament" was months away from release, no copies had been printed. All purchases had been pre-orders, so refunds aren't necessary.

I am not condoling the N-word at all. However, there is a HUGE double-standard. I worked at a high school in Queens and I heard the kids calling eachother that name all day long. It was offensive. I would have to yell at students not to say it, but they didn't care. They would say it in front of adults. Please, they would call adults that name. And, they weren't saying it just in a friendship context, it was in every context. It is a word that should have been removed from everyone's vocabulary years ago, but unfortunately it is huge because of rap music and such.
I agree. I totally blame the Rap industry for making it "cool". Last summer I spent most everyday taxi-ing my son & his friends everywhere. Both black & white kids singing daily the lyrics from JayZ & Kanye "Niggas in Paris".. there wasn't a day it wasn't on Hot97. I would cringe, they would sing, not even phased by the word. & these are Prep School kids! Google the song & you'll see " Ball so hard.." I'll venture to say they made more $$ off of this song then any Paula Deen book.
PLEASE, don't get me wrong.. I could care less about her & if she did indeed use racist, malicious language.. she deserves what she gets...
My point is, the young generation uses it loosely because of these rap MOGULS making lite of it all.. while reaping in big bucks.

I read that whole deposition, all 130+ pages ........
I don't see where she stated she wanted black men to dress as slaves to serve at a wedding -
She said she went to a restuarant, she was SO impressed with the servers - they weren't just 'waiters' they were professional, middle aged men who obviously made a real and true career, and probably a great living out of being a server ....... they were dressed so nicely and behaved to professionally it completely added to the whole experience of the restaurant - and she was AWARE of the fact that she couldn't and wouldn't replicate it b/c it wasn't worth the way other people MIGHT SEE it - she was obviou8sly aware it wasn't the best idea b/c others might find it to be inappropriate or offensive - so she didn't do it .........
have youi ever been to Morton's steakhouse? it's the EXACT same situation - with the one exception that all of the servers, all dressed the same way, are middle aged WHITE men -
And the separate bathroom thing ......she specifically stated the front bathrooms were for the paying guests, and the back bathrooms were for the staff ........I don't understand what is so terrible about that?
I only read the deposition - is there something else I missed?
i'm not saying this woman is a saint SHE said repeatedly she's not perfect - But I'd hardly read that deposition and determine that she's a completely racist bigot !!
I agree.
I think the separate restrooms, porn, slave comments are hearsay by the employee who is suing her & her brother. It's hearsay right now, no?
When I went to NOLA last month all of the fancy historic restaurants had all waiters (of different races) wearing white dinner jackets and bow ties. I thought it was traditional southern historical attire, I never saw it as slave attire.
Mama Lombardi's in Holbrook there are no waitresses in the restaurant, only men off the boat from Italy
She admitted in her deposition that once when she was a bank teller a black man came in and held a gun to her head demanded money. She said that when the robber had fled she dropped the N word. (I'm sure that's not her only time) BUT that said, I'm sure she's not the only person on the entire planet that would react the same way after a life & death situation.
Again, not saying she's right. Just saying she's a human being. Not some idol that was worshipped.

Re: Food Network to drop Paula Deen
Now I hear that Carla Hall from The Chew who is a black chef that knows Paula Deen on a personal level and considers her a friend defended her. So people that do not know her are quick to state that she racist. However, there are people that know her that her defending her left and right. Stacy Dash also defended her VIA Twitter and of all people- Jesse Jackson. So, I don't know. I think this was blown WAY out of proportion.
