I wish I had more friends IRL who GET being a cop's wife. It's a small club and unless you're a member you can't truly understand (although everyone I know tries to and is awesome about understanding the hours and the stress.)
My husband works in Narcotics in East NY. Before that he worked in South Jamaica for 12 years. In 2008 he was involved in a shoot out resulting from a drug deal gone bad. He was lucky to walk away from that alive. Since then I've learned to put his job completely out of my mind. I have to or I won't be able to function.
2 more years till he can retire. 20 AND OUT BABY!!!
FDNY wife!!We have 5 more years until 20 and out, may G*d bless and protect them everyday.

DH is NYPD. I never really worried until he and about 7 other cops got mowed down by a perp trying to get away. Thankfully he was ok but after that i'm constantly worrying.

Its so very sad. My dad is retired NYPD, 103rd. DH is a CO with the Sheriff's Department. I totally get what you are saying. Many prayers for all of the officers out there and their families.

My DH is NYPD and was in the same unit, Narcotics until 3 yrs ago when he got another DETAIL AND MOVED! I was also pg at the time and would have sleepless nites when he was not home and in bed with me.
I am a little more at ease now but no matter what it dosent change the job and that ANYTHING can happen.
I just pray that he comes home to me safe every nite.

Yep I agree. And the stupid statements from people who just don't "get it" aggrevate me SOOO much sometimes. (I'm not talking about anyone on here, by the way, I just have a few people in my real life who I could STRANGLE at times with their dumb azz, completely clueless statements) I wish they could live this life for one day and then maybe they would understand!
And yes, I do not think about it every night when he leaves for work because then I would NEVER get any sleep. You do get used to blocking it out- you have to or you'd go insane!
totally agree on everything you said.

Re: For all the wives and family of law enforcement...
My father was an NYPD detective for 20 years, my uncle an NYPD Sergeant for 20 and now my brother is an NYPD officer. It's the hardest life ever. Every day, there is fear. Every time the phone rings, you jump. Whether its during the day or at night..your heart skips a beat. First it was my dad..then my uncle..now my baby brother. You have to try to put it out of your mind, but its virtually impossible. My heart goes out to all of you.
