For anyone who has done crown molding—does this sound insane?
6" crown for 12x17 dining room. It's beautiful and detailed, but nothing ornate (no filigree or pearl or federal etc.).
$1000. installed.
Am I out of touch or is that HIGH?
I will say this carpenter does amazing work. He's done work for us before and is a true craftsman. And I like the confidence of knowing who is doing the work and that it won't be parceled out to a day laborer, but it still feels way high to me.

Sounds high to me... but we had ours done 3 yrs ago and I live in FL.
New 6" crown AND base molding in: LR/DR Kitchen Office Master Foyer
All big rooms... installed and painted in 3 days (2 guys). Total cost including labor was about $2k, we negotiated it down from about 2800.

Too high, unless your DR has an odd size that needs lotsa complex cuts, I don't see why it should cost so much.
I'll ask the guy how long it'll take him. If it's a day job (which I can't imagine it being more than), $1000 for a day's work is alot of moolah, even including material costs.

That sounds a bit high. I know someone who can give you a quote Victor Palazzo of Palazzo Design does amazing work 631-595-2410 tell him Dee & Phil gave you his # for better price. Is that a airdale in your house pic? What a great color. they are very smart dogs.

yes, that's a lot- I think we paid $600 for the molding for our similarly sized living room.... I'm not sure how much the labor was because it was part of a bigger project- but no way it was $400
