? for moms who BF and introduced bottle

Yesterday DH gave DD a bottle of breastmilk (2oz) which she took no problem but seemed like she was looking for more. How many ounces should we be giving her? She is 2 weeks and 4 days old.

my ped told me at 5 weeks if she eats every 2 hrs to give 1 1/2 oz -2 oz - and if every 3 hours - 3 oz.

Honestly DD at 9 weeks barely eats 2 ozs of her bottles (we only give them about 3 times a week). She is a larger baby though - I won't know for sure until we see the ped friday - but I am estimating from getting on the scale with her that she is about 13 lbs.

DS was taking 2 to 2.5 oz at that age. I had to up to 3 oz shortly after.

This should help you figure out how much your baby needs.

I have tried to find an answer to this question and unfortunately what I pretty much keep hearing is that there is no set number! Basically, try adding alittle more and if they suck it down, then thats what they need. It could also be that DD wants to suck on something but isn't hungry. You might want to try a pacifier or finger (yours or hers) to help soothe... HTH Chat Icon

This is a great link. It helped me a lot with daycare.

Also make sure that you are using slow flow nipples.

If you DC seems to want more, it's also possible that she just wants to $uck. Remember that they usually feed 10, 20, 30 minutes etc... to get that amount when they're BFing.

Here are some tips on bottle feeding a BF infant: link
