Re: for people with houses where the formal living room/dining room run into one another...(UPDATE AT BOTTOM)

UPDATE:
lol, okay i couldn't get them to post here so i made an album. i posted a picture of the living room and then where it conects to the dining room (if you are facing the living room, the dining room is to the left) and then a pic of the dining room - so hopefully you can get a better idea what i'm talking about. please excuse the house... we are in the middle of clearing everything out. my grandparents moved in when it was built 40 years ago and haven't done a thing to it since. we'll get there!

I saw the pictures! I personally think you can do the wall connecting the diving room and living room one color maybe a shade darker than the living room color. Then it looks like an accent wall. Then the rest of living room and even the hallway can be another color.

the only thing is that there are only 2 actual walls in the living room... the one that connects to the dining room and then the one where the window is. otherwise it's open with the railing and whatnot. we're doing the hallway a very light shade of green (BM paris rain) and were going to do the living room/dining room - top 2/3 beige and bottom 1/3 this deep green color, with a chair rail to separate. the finish is a suede look, it's what we have in our living room now and love it. i just didn't know if doing the entire living room/dining room one way would be too much.
eta - i posted a pic of our living room now ("condo" album), so you can see the colors i am talking about - we just didn't do the chair ral in our place, where we would in the new house. probably a stain to match the wood furniture.

ok now looking at your condo pic it makes more sense. I think with the two colors you would have to do it the same throughout the living room and dining room. I think it will look great like that! I didn't realize you were talking of a two color with a chair rail thing. Go for it. I think it will look great!!!!

My house is the exact same layout, except that my garage doors and bedrooms above it are on the right side of the house and my living room is on the left. Our house was built in 1962, when was yours?

yeah, ours is the same. I think one color through out would make the most sense since you want to do 2 colors and a chair rail. Nice choice!

okay, thanks ladies! i always feel better after someone tells me they think it will look okay, lol. my mom's like "it's just paint - you can always change it" lol she's right. i just didn't know if such a big area decorated the same way would be too much. i'd still like to see pics of anyone that did it though!

the open floor plans are great, but tough to get that 'different'room feel.

we did the house (sans BR's) in one
color, an accent wall in different color, and then accent each room differently ie artwork, plants, area rugs. this maybe some ideas. Happy house Decorating! Chat Icon

kirsta- i think it's ok if you do all one color...jeff's parent' s house has the same layout and they painted the living room and dining room the same color and it looks really nice...it makes the house look really open
