Re: ? for SAHM re: income

I will answer the original question--I don't know how it had anything to do with SAHMs using less of their brains or being lesser role models for their children ...
There is probably no amount of money. The reason I say this is because I wasn't making a ton to begin with (Catholic school teacher ) and we are VERY lucky to be able to do well on one income. I am not staying at home for me--most days I would rather be working. My DH and I decided that we didn't want our DDs in daycare at a very young age if we could avoid it, and we can.
I've read a few times on posts like these about how working is setting a good example for a child, and being a good role model....
And i agree with you, don't know how being a SAHM isn't being a role model either!
I thought my mom, a SAHM to 6 kids was a wonderful role model. She showed us how its possible to be with your children and when they were all in school, she earned her paralegal degree and went to working full time. She showed me how you can do it all, even though there are sacrifices.

Re: ? for SAHM re: income
It would not only have the be a very large paycheck but i would need other perks and a schedule I could dictate.
The whole package would have to benefit my family more than me being home does.

Would I love to stay at home? um, yes, Wait no. No no, I meant yes. But maybe not. I don't know.
not to hijack this thread, but LMAO
i feel the exact same way... which is why i'll be going back to work half-time for the next 6 months or possibly longer. trying to get the best of both worlds... although it is hurting us financially...

Re: ? for SAHM re: income
Can I just say...no one was saying that SAHM's aren't good role models or SAHM's aren't using their brains...
It all depends on how YOU as an individual want use you brain, or what kind of role model you want to be.
This thread feels like it could EASILY go the wrong way.

Sometimes these threads do go the wrong way...which they shouldn't, I agree...and I wasn't trying to sway it that way by my response, but it is true that many times a response to "are you a SAHM or working mom and why" has a response that SEEMS to say "I work because i want to be a good role model and show my child they can work and have children as well".
You can see how comments like that can be taken the wrong way...I don't like to get defensive because I have no reservations about being a SAHM, but the statement seems a bit one sided, thats all.
We're all great role models. Everyone here takes a huge interest in their child...the rest of the world should follow and it would be a much better place!

Re: ? for SAHM re: income
I honestly can't answer this question. Let me try.
I used to work full time but now I am a SAHM. I LOVE it and I don't think I could ever go back. At least not with 2 kids and 1 on the way. Something would be sacraficed....something would get the short end of the stick. It could be the kids, the house or my marriage. I am not the kind of person who can juggle 10 things at once. Working full time, owning a house, 3 kids and a Dh is a lot in my opinion. There are people who do it but i am one of those people who would have a hard time doing it. I can juggle 5 things at once but not 10. So for me, with soon to be 3 kids, I would have to say NO! If I answered this question having only 1 kid......I would have said YES for $40,000 plus.
