For those donating their baby's cord blood...
How do we go about doing this? Do we have to arrange it? Does the doctor arrange it? I'm not storing it so I want to donate it.

I would ask you doctor, I'm sure they would know and I know only certain hospitals allow you to donate it so make sure your hospital does.

We are donating it as well, I discussed it with my OB and told him we want to donate. He marked it down in our file and said when we deliver we just have to let them know and fill out some paper work. I think the process depends on the hospital. Not all hospitals accept donations for cord blood bank.

I told my doctor's office I wanted to donate and they said people from the hospital come around and ask you if you want to then.

We had to make arrangements in advance since the hospital I'm delivering at doesn't normally do donations. We did ours through:
Cryobanks International
We had to make arrangements with them no later than 34 weeks. A month before your EDD, they'll send you a kit for your doctor to use to collect the cord blood.

I looked up my hospital which does participate but then found out my obgyn does not collect for donation (only for personal storage) and that he charges fees for it too so we opted not to do anything with it.
