For those getting an infant car seat...
Are you also registering for/getting a convertible car seat as well?
I'm leaning towards the Graco Snugride 32 which should give us a few more months in the infant seat...would it be silly for me to register for a convertible seat too? Should I just wait to get one until we're ready for it? TIA!

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
I registered for the Graco Snugride in Jewel and the Evenflo Symphony Car Seat in SophiaAnn. I don't think it would be silly to register for both. Even with the Snugride 32 eventually you will need a convertible car seat so i figured i would just register for both and i fell in love with the Evenflo symphony car seat! Image Attachment(s):

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
We registered for the Graco SnugRide Sachi and Britax Marathon Covertible Seat
We considered the SnugRide 32 but honestly when I lifted it without a baby in it, I felt it was a lot heavier then the regular snugride. I don't want any difficulties carrying my child even as a newborn

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
I would register for it, we registered for both the infant car seat and convertible. The convertible car seat we chose (Britax Marathon) is very expensive so I'm not expecting to get it, but it's on there so we can use the completion coupon to buy it ourselves.

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
I registered for both with my son. He hated the infant car seat and was in the convertible one at 4 months old. I was so happy that I had it all ready to go.

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
I think I am holding off on registering for the convertible till we need it...our nephew is 14 months old and still in the infant seat, so if we use if for a long time I would rather wait just in case the models are newer/updated.

14 months - wow! That's kind of what I was thinking though...if we get the SR32 we might get a good 10-12 months out of it so we might want to look newer models of the convertibles then. Sigh...I dunno...I'm back & forth lol

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
From what I've seen (and experienced with two DC), the AVERAGE age to switch over to the convertible is around 8 months. Yes, there are some who can stay in it until 14 months (especially if you have one that goes up to 30 lbs), and there are others who switch after 2-4 months.
There are pluses and minus to either thought. When DC is finally ready to switch, you don't have to rush out to get a new seat if you already have it. You can have time to practice getting the straps adjusted, and how to use it. Then again, as long as you buy it a week or so before you decide to switch, that isn't a big issue. If it's on the registry, there's a good chance someone else will buy it for you. If you wait, the odds are slimmer that that will happen.

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
I registered for a Gracco Quattro Travel System plus an extra base.
I also got two Britax Car Seats for when the baby is older - my car & DH Car.

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
I only registered for the car seat.
I didn't feel comfortable registering for both, but mostly because of the storage issue. I dont want to store that box for 1 year. I'd rather go out and buy one when I need it.

I have the regular Snugride and I cannot possibly imagine carrying a 30 lb child in it. DS is at least 16 lbs and it's getting pretty heavy.
I registered for 2 convertible car seats (Britax Marathon). I didn't end up getting them at my shower, but I got a few gift cards that I could've used towards that. I ended up buying them a few weeks ago from diapers.com b/c they had a sale on Britax and free shipping. There's no harm in putting them on the registry.

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
i bought the regular snugride the $140, i felt thaat the 32lb one was too heavy if im going to use it to bring him to church or attach to my stroller, your baby will weigh around 32lbs at 3yrs of age i doubt you will be attaching the baby to the stroller at 3years.
i am planning on using the snugride till 6months then switch to the britax boulvard convertible, its highly rated and good safety features, it has to be rear faced till the baby is a year old and will last to 65lbs unless baby reaches 49 inches in height where you switch to a booster
i am not registering a booster bc in 3years a lot will change
hope this helped.

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
we registered for both and my GENIUS (meant genuinely, not sarcastically) sister in law told us what to do.
she gave us a check for the 'convertible' for our shower and asked us to cash it and put aside the cash for when it came time to get the convertible. This way - we're not storing a huge box that we don't have space for and by the time we need it for Emma - there may be some newer models out there...
Register for it - if you get it - RETURN IT....and keep that gift card to the side for when you do need to get the seat!!! Your baby could grow quickly and you need it sooner - or your baby could NOT need it for 1.5 - 2 years and much like technology - a LOT changes in the baby industry in 1.5 - 2 years.

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
Sorry to crash - my friend registered for the regular Snugride and a non-convertible car seat and is planning now to go out and buy a convertible one since the baby and the seat are getting too heavy to lift. Her baby is 8 mos.

Re: For those getting an infant car seat...
We registered for the infant seat an extra infant seat base, and 2 convertible seats (one for my car and one for my DH's).
The convertible seats are expensive, and I highly doubt I'll get both, or even one of them, but at least I'll have the option to use the completion discount toward the purchase of them after the baby is born.
