going to have my children and wait for the last to be in elementary before i go back. might go back part time or go back to college for a teaching degree. have a BA in marketing already. and used to do graphic design back in the day so i can always freelance. want at least 4-5 kids almost done with #2- so we have some time.

no, I'm not. many women feel differently, but I was never a "career" person.

Re: for those of you who are SAHMs... are you going to go back to work?
Every now & then I look to find night jobs. But, slim pickings really. I will definitely go back once my daughters are in school. (unless of course we are well off by then. )

Re: for those of you who are SAHMs... are you going to go back to work?
Yes and it has nothing to do with DH's salary.
I am on extended leave, total 20 months. I'll be going back to the same position.
Thinking long term, it is much better for my family. As a public school teacher for over ten years:
1. I have ten years towards a gov't pension. Financially it would be foolish to stop now and it would cost hundreds of thousands in the long run.
2. My health insurance is much better than DH's. My DD was in the NICU for a week. I never saw a bill.
3. The school calendar schedule (although not the hours of work I take home) is obviously easier when raising children.
4. My retirement in my own name.
5. You never know what life is going to throw at you. My Dad became a single parent suddenly one night. My mom was a SAHM, had my dad been the one to die and my mother not having a job, I am scared to think how my life would be different. I would never want my children's life to be impacted additionally by financial hardship.
Every situaiton is different. And yes, even with two in daycare at the same time, it still pays for me to go back. It would for the health insurance, 403B contribution, and pension alone, even if I was turning the majority of my salary over to daycare.

Re: for those of you who are SAHMs... are you going to go back to work?
I work very PT now, maybe 10 hours a week on a good week. With 2 children, I find it a good balance. And the money is good
I really, honestly say I don't know if I would ever go back FT. I definitely prefer to stay at home, but if I needed to work I would. I have a professional license that I will always maintain, so if there's work, I would take it.

Re: for those of you who are SAHMs... are you going to go back to work?
i was a SAHM for the past 5 months and now i work part time 15 hours a week (3 days a week, 4-5 hours a day), which is perfect. i make good $$ and have plenty of time for DS, plus i have family watching him two days so knowing hes getting great care while i am at work is priceless

I would like to volunteer or get a job, (whether it be FT or PT) once my youngest is of middle school age...mainly for socialization.

Re: for those of you who are SAHMs... are you going to go back to work?
I've been a SAHM since #2 was born--so 8 months now. I do plan on going back when my youngest child is in school full-time--I can't say when that will be, but I'm thinking around 6 years...if I survive to tell the tale! I loved my job, so I look forward to returning one day!

Re: for those of you who are SAHMs... are you going to go back to work?
I will never go back to work in the city full time (my old job really burned me out)
I have had some opportunities to work from home full time - and that may happen in a few months.
Otherwise, I will stick with real estate - and maybe down the road when the kids are in school go back to work full time (out on LI though)

When everyone is in school I will be going back to my old job working 9-3. However I still have some time since my two little guys are only 2.5 yrs old & 10.5mos.
