For those of you who have vacationed in Italy - a poll
I obviously don't expect you to post the amount it costs - hence the poll.
just trying to get an idea, I know it can vary GREATLY!

Re: For those of you who have vacationed in Italy - a poll
well you know the airfare was free but the tickets would have been like 1400 each, plus like 2000 in hotels and 1000 for food, transportation, etc.
hope that helps, you can definitely find good deals though, i highly recommend all the hotels we stayed in but the one in rome. check expedia, that's where i booked the hotels.
HTH
if you have any questions, feel free to fm me.

I've been twice. Both times were years ago when the airfares were like $500. I put $3000, but I spent less. I backpacked and accommodation was a lot cheaper.

just about 3800 for all meals, tips, souveniers, train travel, airfare, hotels, and day tours for 8 days in Rome, Florence, Naples, Pompeii, Siena, and San Gimignano. We stayed in all 4 star resorts and didn't really skimp on anything!
This was our HM in Nov 07

Re: For those of you who have vacationed in Italy - a poll
Dh's family has a house there that we stay in, so when we go, we dont' have to pay for accommodation and they live in the middle of nowhere, so restaurants are extremely reasonable. we also do a lot of cooking and drinking at home, so that saves money too....so basically, i am not the best person to ask. :)
BUT flights are usually at least $600 and that's a good deal. also, if you rent a car, the cost of tolls on Italy's highways are very expensive as well as gasoline being almost $8.00 a gallon. Also, the Euro right now is at an all-time high... it's $1.50 to one Euro...not good for US travelers.
if you are going to the major cities all in one trip, i would say expect to pay at least $3,000 - $5,000. Also, the fall and spring will be cheaper than the summer and the winter will be very cheap. you may want to look into a tour...that might be a chepaer way.

Re: For those of you who have vacationed in Italy - a poll
I recently surprised DH with a trip to Italy for his 30th. It was probably about $7K for everything - flight, accommodations, food, souvenirs, excursions, etc. This was for 10 nights (4 in Rome, 3 in Florence, 3 in Venice) in the off-season. We stayed at nice hotels and did most everything we wanted, but definitely did not splurge on super fancy dinners every night, didn't go on tours for every site, and didn't buy a ton of souvenirs. It is very costly, and the dollar s$cks big time. Totally worth it, though - we LOVED it.
ETA: this was a trip we planned on our own, not through a tour company. HTH!
