Re: for those planning on doing natural birth...
I also hope to go natural, but my decision is not set in stone. I am petrified of getting an epidural, I don't do needles well and the thought of one going into my back makes me want to vomit!

im petrified to have a needle go into my back! I also feel that i am strong enough to do it everyone is telling me that im crazy but I dont think I am. yes im sure its going to be horrible pain beyond belief but for some reason thats the way I want it. I might change my mind once im there but i belive in my heart that I can do it.

Re: for those planning on doing natural birth...
My goal is also to go natural. However I understand things happen, and am not going to be upset if I need an emergency section or some other intervention. My mom had me natural, and so did DH's mom had him and his brother the same way. I want to go in with the intention of doing it natural. It is just something I really want to experience it at least once. I also rarely take any medications at all b/c they just don't agree with me. So the thought of very strong medications freaks me out. I don't even take tylenol unless I have a high fever. DH is also very supportive of my choice, and I know will be my rock and help me get through it.

I agree with you 100% about wanting to experience labor despite the pain. I also get people telling me I'm crazy...some people get downright hostile! I don't get it it's my own decision but a lot of people take it like a personal attack!

Not to sound obnoxious but saying this for lack of a better way- the word NATURAL is all i need to say. I personally feel the body is an AMAZING thing and i want it to do whatever it needs to do naturally. Its just my belief. Ofcourse my plan and can completely shattered but i am really hoping to do this naturally

Re: for those planning on doing natural birth...
Id like to go natural because I feel like I have to be in control. I dont like that thought of pain meds making me feel loopy or numb. Plus I have an extremely high tolerance for pain so I think I can manage. Im going to try at least.

Re: for those planning on doing natural birth...
my reasons: - i try not to take any meds (unless absolutely necessary) - i have back issues and am afraid of the needle - i dont want a catheter - im more nervous about the possible side effects of the epi vs the crazy pain - my mom & gma did it..along with a ton of other ppl - not really natural related but i would prefer not to have another scar
but all that being said...if i cant bear the pain or i need the meds to get through the process or need surgery...ill be okay. id just like to give it a try first for those reasons above.

Re: for those planning on doing natural birth...
I did it with both children. I hoped to do it with my first but had no clue what I'd be in for (honestly I thought I'd end up with a c-section b/c none of my friends had vaginal deliveries and I was starting to think a section was the norm). I hoped to skip the epi b/c it scared me and I like to avoid drugs, but was open minded to what ever happens, happens. Turns out, I had no time to decide and went drug free.
With Colin, I wanted to do it again b/c I knew I could already get thru it. Again, I was open minded that I might not be able to do it again but I was able to.
I had such an easy recovery- I was walking around minutes after giving birth - def. a perk!

Re: for those planning on doing natural birth...
I don't like the impact some medical interventions have on DC and breats feeding
I view child birth as something natural that happens at every minute of every day and not as a medical disastter waiting to happen.

This is my thinking exactly. Our bodies were meant for giving birth, and for me I don't think it's anything to be afraid of. I'm the same in other areas of my life also (organic foods, living green, etc). I'm also using a midwife so Pitocin & c-section isn't pushed on me, and I also won't be hooked up to a fetal monitor so I can give birth in the best position for it (squatting).

Re: for those planning on doing natural birth...
I've done it once before so I see no reason why I can't do it again.
I'm still terrifed of the epi and here's why:

And I have also had bad reactions to anesthesia so I'd rather not tempt fate.

We sound very similar. If i knew then what i knew now, i SOOOO would be w. a midwife. I do like my dr and he was AMAZING when i had my m/c and ive been w. him for yrs, but overall for this, i wish i went midwife. I am SOOOO against pitocin and c-section and i do NOT want it pushed on me. This is why i have read ALOT of info and took a bradley class and we leared so much. DH wants to hire a doula too so we have an advocate but im thinking we could stay string and save the $1000. I would have loved to but its alot of $$$
And the funny thing is, i am a WIMP!! I had a mole removed last month and i was FLIPPING OUT when he had to put the TINY needle to numb it. I pass out when i see blood or hear stories. NO JOKE! I do NOT take pain well. But something about this is different. I feel so empowered

Re: for those planning on doing natural birth...
something no one mentions is that under normal situations "natural childbirth" recovery is much faster, and you have more energy
This is the #1 reason for me, I want to be 100% when baby is here.
Also, on scale of what I hate most pain is way below needles and surgery. But I have nothing to help me know what the pain will be like or how bad it will be for me, so I really can't promise it will be all natural, but you better believe I wil have to l pass out from the pain and wake up screaming before I request meds.
I'm using an OB who understands this, and has experience doing natural births in a country where women give births without meds. She also has experience changing babies position if they are breach. So I'm feeling really good about it.
