Ours was painted when we moved in and we tried to strip the paint (big mistake - we gave up after a full evening of scrubbing). We painted over it again in a color we liked better.

We have a brick fireplace. I will never paint it. If I wanted it to be a different color I would do something else to the face of it to cover the brick but wont paint right on the brick.

First let me say that she did a great job! Does she work in homes as well? I have a brick fireplace too and i've been on the fence about whether to paint it b/c once you do it, there's not turning back

We had a brick fireplace and I hated it so we ended up refacing it because I didn't think that painting it would do the trick. You sister in law though did a GREAT job you can't tell the difference. There are pics in my album, under downstairs if you are interested in the before & afters.

I'm not a huge fan of red brick so I personally love painted fireplaces.
That one your sister did looks great!!

I never really thought about it - I guess I might paint it if it went w/ the rest of my decor ...........but I love the exposed red bricks - so I probably would not

Re: For those who have brick fire places....did anyone ever paint them?
I have a good friend who did this in her house. She had a sort of late 70's - 80's looking brick (it was dark red with black bricks throughout).
She did a white wash over the whole thing. Not paint, but a white stain.
It honestly looks BEAUTIFUL.

She did an awesome job! I love it! I don't love my red brick but I'm not sure what to do with it....something like this might be an option

Re: For those who have brick fire places....did anyone ever paint them?
Our brick was painted white and we had it sandblasted back to the brick. I hated the white paint.
Having said that, my house is white painted brick/stucco. It suits the house but I would never paint over perfectly good red brick.
