For those who moved OOS - moving truck question

Did you hire movers or did you rent a truck and drive your belongings yourselves?

Approximately how much did it cost?
Dh just got a quote from uhaul for a 17' truck at $1800.00.

I moved to California (and back 10 months later but thats another story). We had quotes from 3 different companies. They come in your house and estimate the weight/cost. It was approximately 7k for 2800 miles. We had a 3br including 3 year old twins stuff, washer/dryer etc. HTH

I paid about 4k to move down south from ny. 3bd house. Totally worth it IMO I wouldn't have had anyone to help us load and unload the amount of stuff we had. They also take apart furn and beds and then put it back together.

Moved to CT, 2br apt was 1500.

BTW, be forewarned that if y ou use movers, on interstate moves they charge per lb not per hour or distance.

We rented a uhaul and drove/packed ourselves. Maybe it was $2k ish??

Done it a few times by ourselves. Always under 1500.
Super cheap to move north...they are just happy you are bringing trucks back up to them.

We rented a truck and packed on our own. I found that Budget truck was way less money than U-Haul. Plus Budget truck was on ebates so I got a percentage back:)
