For those who plan to return to work, how much time are you planning on taking off?

How much of the time off is paid vs not paid? Were you given the choice of taking additiona non-paid time off?

I plan to take 4 months paid (12 wks maternity leave plus 4 weeks vacation/sick).

If possible, I'd like to take an additional 2 months non-paid for a total of 6 months off but I'm not sure if that will be available for me. It would be a precedent at my company as most all women either come back after maternity or don't come back at all.

I'm allowed 6 months total - including paid maternity leave (8-10 weeks) and any vacation time I choose to use so I can continue to be paid ...

I'll probably take the full 6 months, 8-10 weeks paid, and then save my vacation for after I go back to work -

i get 3 months paid - but before that kicks in i HAVE to use my vacation/personal time - so i think it'll work out to be 4 months total...or close to it.

I get nothing paid, but can take up to 6 months off. I'll probably end up taking 4-6 months off, depending on how I feel.

Re: For those who plan to return to work, how much time are you planning on taking off?

6 months...

I'm taking two weeks off prior to my due date (anytime before my baby arrives is PTO time for me, unless my Dr. takes me out of work)

6 weeks for vaginal delivery
8 weeks for c/s
Then we get 2 weeks paid parental leave (my husband gets this too)

Total of 10 weeks paid (either 2 or 4 weeks will be at 75% pay for STD)

Anything after that is unpaid.

I'm planning my last day of work to be 1/30/09. My back to work date would technically be July 1st, but I will come back after the long holiday weekend.

I don't get any paid time off and will be taking at least 12 weeks, but I am thinking about trying to work at home for the first year.

I get NOTHING paid. And can only take 12 weeks (unpaid) per FMLA. If I want I can also use my 2 weeks vacation.

Re: For those who plan to return to work, how much time are you planning on taking off?

Well, right now I am freelancing and not working full time so all my time off is unpaid.

I plan to take a year off, if I can stand it-- then look for another full time job once we get settled in to wherever we move to-- we plan to sell our apt, and buy a house in the burbs.

My work hours have basically been cut, so right now-- I guess I am off already. I am SO bored, and I know that will change once i have the baby and I am doing activities and stuff and meet other local moms. But, I am not sure I can stand another year of not working.

Move out our way (Akajt and myself), we can have lots of playdates, and mall walking!

I'm not going back to the job I have now - so it will be 8 weeks maternity and then 6 weeks vacation... then I have to get a new job closer to home and probably at night.

I'm thinking I'll probably take 6 months off. 6-8 weeks disability paid at 50% and I have about 10 weeks PTO that I'll use. Anything after that will be unpaid time off.

we can still do that! Mall walking and Hobo walking when the weather gets better! But, we are planning on moving back to LI to be closer to our parents. Although, until we start looking-- who knows what will happen. But, that's the plan for now.

I will most likely only take 4 weeks. It really depends on how things progress. Techniquely i'm not supposed to be paid, but I wouldn't be surprised if I am...My boss is awesome.

I only work 3 half days a week and only 2 in the summer. I'm due in May, so it would be 3 half days for 2 weeks then down to 2. Not bad, and I think I'll need to interact with adults, plus it will give Daddy and baby bonding time.

I could stay out longer, but it's just the 2 of us, and it would wind up being more work if I did.

I'm thinking 4 months, but I plan on working from home for the 4th to finish some yearly projects where I'm the only one who knows how to do them.

Re: For those who plan to return to work, how much time are you planning on taking off?

i am taking 6 weeks
8 if i end up needing a c-section but i doubt it

i actually have 70 school days i can use; but anything that is over the baby's 6 week bday i need medical documentation for

70 school days is about 4 months (with vacations) so we'll see

where are you a teacher? in NYC you get 6 weeks from the baby's bday; assuming you have sick days in your bank
