Re: forced air heat
I feel your pain... In fact, I wrote a similar post not too long ago.

I think you can install a whole house humidifier attachment to your system. I'm not sure of the cost or what's involved. If you decided to do this, please let me know what you find out!
Good luck!

Re: forced air heat
We have baseboard heating, which uses gas i think and our humidy level is very low in our house
We just got a quote for a whole house humidifier and it was 1000 dollars.
We are installing it next week. Our throats are so dry and noses are so stuffed up in the morning its terrible.
eta: what is involved is they install the unit in the basement and run a vent to the first floor, the vent is directly above the unit so there isnt much work invovled we can get a wood colored vent so it won't be noticeable. THere is only one vent for the entire house and that will put humidity into the house

Re: forced air heat
we have forced air AND a humidifier.
during the day it's fine but I am seriously considering getting humidifiers for the bedrooms for nightime use.
I have very sensitive which is exacerbated by dry air....it can be sheer misery for me.

Re: forced air heat
We just got a Hydronic system installed in our house. DW and DS are sensitive to dry air, and we've had the heat on for a few weeks now. Neither one has had any complaints about the humidity. The Hydronic heater doesn't "cook" the air, like most forced air heaters, which makes a huge difference. I have no idea what is involved in replacing the heating unit, however.
