Formula help-need advice.

I'm in need of some advice!! We are on our 3rd formula for my daughter's constipation-Similac Alimentum...well we just found out that our insurance won't cover it. Actually-its not even making her go #2 as much as I had hoped, still only every third or fourth day...

Sooo 2 friends recommended Nestle Good Start with comfort proteins...does anyone use it? She's not gassy and doesn't have reflux.

I should also say that my PED wasn't that concerned with her not having BM's that often-he said to try to Alimentum because it would help her go, not because she needs to be on it.

All 3 formulas we've tried have been Similac, maybe we just need something else...

Sorry so long!

Re: Formula help-need advice.

My boys ended up on the Alimentum. It took a couple of days before they became regulated and they have been doing great on it ever since. We were lucky enough that it was covered by insurance.

If you find this works for you please let me know. I have about 10 cases at home that I am no longer using as of this week since we are now able to go onto regular milk.

Good luck to you and wait a few more days to see if it makes a difference.

Re: Formula help-need advice.

We had DD on Similac Advance, Good Start, Gentlease and FINALLY Alimentum...

It took about a week for her to be finally and fully regulated, but once that happened, she was fine...she went once or twice a day with a few exceptions here and there....

I would go with a combination of advice from ped and your "mommy gut"...

Good Luck!!Chat Icon

ETA - every child is different, Alimentum and Nutramigen are supposedly "hypo-allergenic' and gentler on the stomachs than the others (Gentlease, Good Start, etc)...

I know for DD - she was AWFUL on non-Similac products, but I know a lot of people had success with those...

One of the moms at DS's preschool was just telling me the same thing. She said that Good Start worked for them because it was a thinner formula. Good Luck! Chat Icon

I was going to say the same thing. DS only pooped every 3 days or so. My ped said it is fine. 4 days is the max though. If he didn't poop by the 4th day, I would give him either a little water and if that didnt work use a tiny bit of a suppository and he would go within minutes. If she doesnt have reflux or any other reactions to the formula I wouldnt keep switching her. That might be irritating her more.

I wish it was every 4 days...before the Alimentum she went 7 days twice! And the reason she went on that 7th day was because I gave her a suppository. She didn't seem in pain or uncomfortable, but I hated it!
