front facing carseat at 2 years???
I just came from taking DD to the ped for her 9 month check up. He told me that you can not use a front facing carseat until the child is 2 years old! I thought it was 1 and a certain weight. My DD is 30 inches tall already!! I can't imagine how uncomfortable she is going to be!!! Anyone else hear this new law as of 2009!?

Re: front facing carseat at 2 years???
Yes, the new recommendation is to keep them rear until 2 years old.
They are safest facing rear. I wanted to keep my DS rear as long as possible but unfortunately he hated the car so much that I had anxiety driving him. He has been much better since I turned him.
That being said, if your child is happy rear facing - keep her that way for as long as possible.

I definitely will keep her rear facing!! She hates the car seat and screams EVERY time I put her in it but that's ok...she is safe and that is what is important. I just didn't know it was 2 years old!! Thanks!!

Re: front facing carseat at 2 years???
There is no new law, it is actually just a recommendation. JJ was turned around at the age of 11.5 months & Nicholas will be turned at 1.
I honestly think it comes down to your own preference. For me, even though there is a recommendation, there is no law & I am comfortable with my boys being forward facing.

You do need to pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions. Like on our carseat, once you move the straps to the highest setting, you can't use it rear facing. DS needed the straps at the top, so we turned it forward facing.

At 14 months Adriao was totally scrunched up rear facing. His little legs were all bent. I finally turned him soon after that. It was def. before he was 18 months. If they're too big and uncomfortable I say turn them, but keep them rear facing as long as they fit! lol

Re: front facing carseat at 2 years???
DS is still rear-facing at 20 months...I am just not comfortable after seeing the video's of what could happen if he were front-facing. He is 34 inches and although his legs are scrunched he doesn't know the difference and I know that if someone were to rear-end us, he has a much greater chance of survival....JMO

There's also no law about 1 year and 20 lbs, it's always been recommendations, so if the old recommendations have been updated, I would definitely go with the newest information. We turned DC around near 18-19 months, and that was years before the recommendations changed.
It's so much safer to keep them RF.
