Frozen breast milk storage help!
My freezer has officially been taken over by breast milk...and I have no room for more! Any ideas? I freeze pumped milk into freezer bags...3 ounces in each bag. I currently piling them up in wine gift bags...i have 5-6 bags filled with milk...but its insane! Soon there will be no room for my raspberry sorbet
I usually feed my DD one bag of 3 ounces a day so she continues to get used to the bottle...but I am definitely storing more than what is being used. I also have some stored at my mom's house for when she babysits or whatever. I don't go back to work until June...but until then...I need to reorganize!

Re: Frozen breast milk storage help!
Any chance you can do 6 oz bags in the freezer instead of 3 oz? Also, I'm not sure about space where you live....but I ended up buying a deep feezer for precisely this reason. Plus it makes more space for me to freeze leftover dinner! It's definitely worth the investment if you have the space.

Re: Frozen breast milk storage help!
i was freezing more ounces in each bag....but my DD is a boobie girl and most of the times refuses to take a bottle. So I was wasting SO much milk defrosting 6 ounces when she would only drink 2.
I have been thinking about a deep freezer....and I guess I really should invest in one. Especially since I still have 2 months of pumping and freezing without really dipping into the stash.
Thanks!

definitely invest in a deep freezer. i bought one before i had DS with the intention of storing breast milk; then i couldnt BF but that freezer sure has come in handy.
we got ours at Sams club for $179 i think.

Re: Frozen breast milk storage help!
We have an additional freezer and initially it was for primarily storing breast milk. It is small enough to fit in our apartment and even after bf'ing was done it's been great for stocking up on frozen veggies and meats. Since ours is smaller and opens in the front it was a bit more expensive but sure was worth the investment!

Also this helps a little but when you freeze them, lay the bag down instead of keeping it upright.

The milk also lasts longer in a deep freezer, otherwise its only 3 months in the regular freezer and keep that in mind while you are stockpiling bc you dont want to waste it!!!

Re: Frozen breast milk storage help!
We had a second fridge, so the bm went into the freezer of the second fridge. I agree fill 6 oz instead. It is good for 12 hours after it is defrosted, so you can make 2 - 3oz bottles. Also remember that she drinks 3 oz now, but by the time you start to use the bm she will probably be drinking more.

Re: Frozen breast milk storage help!
I have an extra freezer in the basement. There is no way I could store all my milk in our primary freezer. I also do 8oz bags, but my DS is 15 weeks.

Re: Frozen breast milk storage help!
I had a second refrigerator so I used that freezer to store my BM. I stored BM in 4 oz portions. BM must be used within 24 hours of defrosting. If DS didn't finish a bottle, I always offered it at the next feeding. If your DD only takes a small amount, make two bottles.
