Re: Futurecasting... Thoughts on a female president....

DH seems to think that a woman couldn't be president because other countries wouldn't take a woman seriously. Some countries still treat women like crap.
I don't agree at all. I think there are plenty of countries that have women at the helm.
He also thinks that Hillary will get out of politics but I disagree.
I bet a lot of people feel this way.
India, Pakistan, Yugoslavia, Nicaragua, South Korea, Ukraine, Haiti, Mongolia, China, and Liberia all seem to think that women can be leaders. It's a shame that those countries are more open-minded than the US.....

I stand corrected.
But I do have hopes that we can see a female president within the next couple of years.
Oh its OK!!! I'm old so I remember that one (even though I wasn't quite old enough to vote it in it!!!)
Me too, I remember watching her on TV - they put her through the ringer!! I will never forget watching her with her blonde hair and red suit. It really left an impression on me!

i remember that one too - my father and mother voted for mondale, apparently one of the few in america and i remember my father yelling about how he was so disappointed that the women in america were not supporting her - had a big impression on me too - i also remember voting in school and everyone was voting for reagan and i wanted to vote for mondale, but was too embarassed b/c i would have been the only one in my class and remembering my mom asking me who i voted for in class and i lied and told her mondale still remember it like yesterday

Re: Futurecasting... Thoughts on a female president....
Today, looking back on this election cycle, I've lost all hope that we'll ever see a female president.
(Unless Cheney resigns, Bush appoints Condi Rice as VP, then Bush himself resigns...she'd steal everyone's thunder -- even if just for a few weeks)
Anyway, news reports today state that 96% of black voters voted for Obama. Women do not vote based on gender; we'll never see 96% of women voters choosing the same candidate and electing a female president.

Re: Futurecasting... Thoughts on a female president....
I think Palin will be back in 2012 (with some serious media training and instruction on world affairs). It pains me to say it because I really dislike her, but I think she may appear again. On the right, Condoleeza Rice is possible also, though I think she needs some distance from the Bush administration.
Hillary may run again in 2012 too, but a lot depends on how Obama does during his first term. If he isn't doing well and alienates the DNC, she has a somewhat decent shot, even against a sitting president, but he would really have to stink it up.
So 2012 could be very interesting.

I think we will definitely see one. I just don't know who. We need another female candidate who is as strong as Clinton. She just didn't attract the younger vote like Obama did.
