What the heck was up with Barbara? She was just badgering McCain and has serious attitude with him and doesn't even look at him when she's talking to him. Let the guy speak!

Yeah she definitely is going in for the kill on him... I think its pretty obvious that she is not a McCain supporter. But at this point with the election getting heated, maybe since she has him there on the couch she's trying to get to the bottom of issues that everyone is speculating about and wants to get his honest opinons on things.
But I will admit she's going after him and not pulling any punches.

Re: FYI: McCain is on the View right now.
I don't like his answers about Roe v. Wade and how he won't necessarily try and overturn it--but instead he wants to nominate justices to the supreme court who are STRICT constructionists to interpret the Constitution "the way our Founding Fathers envisioned us."
just admit that you wanna overturn it ! Cause like Whoppi just said--does that mean we should put slavery back in, cause it was addressed in the Constitution by our founding fathers too.

I agree. I was really embarrassed for Babs as well. Elisabeth barely spoke during the segment. She is always so vocal and supportive of McCain but she barely said anything.
It brought tears to my eyes when they showed the video of McCain after his release as a POW. He seemed to be tearing up as well.

I don't remember them going this hard on Obama. And I am embarrassed for the un-biased interview.
but ITA - his answers are disturbing.

did you see their weird hug? McCain hugged everyone close, except Barbara. It was one of those "I will grab your shoulders and come a little close' type of hugs on both of their parts. It looked awkward

I thought it was--i mean it was obviously a tongue-in-cheek type of response--but being a strict constructionist of the Constitution, if you went word for word of the original document, means you would be okay with slavery and the idea that women shouldn't vote, etc. Obviously the beauty of the Constitution is that our Founding Fathers knew one thing for sure....that they did NOT know everything and left room for the document meant to structure our nation...to be amended and changed. If you went back to the beginning of how it was originally presented without the amendments, it would mean that slavery would be okay.

To be clear, overturning Roe v. Wade would give all power regarding abortion back to the states, where many people (both pro-choice AND pro-life) believe it belongs. It would NOT necessarily ban or outlaw abortion throughout the country. As far as I see it, the only way to do that would be federal statute, which I strongly believe would be unconstitutional.

They are being harsh on him. Although I am not a McCain supporter, I feel sorry for the guy. They are taking everything he says and turning it into something totally different. Elizabeth was quiet the whole time . Maybe they should invite Obama back on to grill him too.

It was an ignorant response, actually. Roe v. Wade isn't in the Constitution. An amendment abolishing slavery IS.

Yeah really!
When he was on it was "tell us about what kind of dog you are interested in buying!!!" LOL!
Not - tell us why you were the ONLY person out of 300 to vote NO to the "born-alive infant protection act" which makes me sick to my stomach -- and excusing that decision by saying the wording between the state and federal documents was different -- meanwhile, his people were responsible for making that wording on his level hence he made his own loop hole because really he believes it is OK to put a baby in a closet and let them DIE.
Flame away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh I totally know it would go back to the states (although I realize that many people probably don't realize this.) But I just don't think I like the idea of it going back to the states and having more conservative states banning it while other states would keep it and therefore the choice of it for those who wish to exercise their choice would be forced to travel to other states to do so, where it is not banned. Therefore making the right to choice more difficult for those who seek that option. But that's JMO, I know everyone sees it differently and I don't want this to turn into another thread on the subject.

Right Obama is on record for wanting to put babies in a closet & let him die. I was shocked to when he blurted that out.

Fair enough. It's just been my experience that many people do NOT know this.
FWIW, while states currently may not ban abortion, there are big differences among the states when it comes to the legality and regulations surrounding abortions after the first trimester throughout the US. So this is already an issue among the states -- though certainly not with respect to whether or not it can be performed at all at certain times.
Also, FTR, I don't believe abortion should be outlawed. I am, however, a pretty stauch federalist and don't believe it's the federal government's power to make that decision, though. (Just so you know wher e I'm coming from.)
ETA -- I sincerely apologize that my post came off as assuming you did not know that. I did not mean to make any judgments about your knowledge. It's just a common misconception I see a lot. (I do a lot of scholarly constitional law work and these things come up a lot...) My apologies - you also have a FM.

I'll take shocked over what I was any day of the week...
I was EATING when I found this out - I literally could not continue eating - that is how sick to my stomach I was over this thought -- and the thought of a nurse rocking the baby and holding it until it died because she felt bad.
I really can't even talk about it, honestly. It took all I had to even mention it this one time - It is very very very upsetting to me.
