Gardening - what do you want to know? [FB page]
I started a Facebook page because I have a lot of garden information from all the reading I've done, websites I've visited, etc.
I'm looking to make a list of the most common things people want to know about, if you could help with that.
What are the things you want to know, what do you wish you had a solution to, or what's a nice tip or trick that you may want to share?
So far, I was thinking:
Perennial recommendations by sun/shade exposure How to shop for and pick healthy plants Container plant combinations & methods Bad insects & diseases and innovative ways to fight them Good insects and how to lure them Design basics with photos Plant profiles Web resources for information/purchasing Weeding methods and tools Photographs of flowers
Anything else you can think of? I wouldn't make the mistake of updating it too often, but I would like to line up subjects beforehand so I don't go too long without anything new.
Here is the page if you want to "Like" it so you see all the updates. :)

Maybe a 'glossary' of things for general knowledge like annuals vs. perennials. Peat moss selection. Mulch varieties and dos and donts. A 'green' area if you are wanted.
I 'liked' the page since I love to garden.

Kid safe (no chemical) tips for keeping animals away from veggies.
Also how to keep animals from getting bulbs. Squirrels or something must have got all the tulip bulbs I planted around one of our trees last fall.

Re: Gardening - what do you want to know? [FB page]
- Organic section: plants, weeds, lawn care and veggie garden
- Best plants for different sun exposures
- Best low maintenance plants for those who hate spending hours taking care of plants. "Set it and forget it"
- Best perenuals
- Annuals: "what will have great impact on the eyes but not the wallet"
- Plants for garden with color theme (white garden, monochromatic garden, pink, purple and red gardent).

white garden
So funny you mention that. I was watching 2 different garden shows that I DVR'd last weekend and both of them featured people that had white gardens. I thought... is this a thing? I mean, there are a lot of white flowers to choose from out there.
People use white gardens at night too because you can still see a lot of blooms. I know one flower, a vine called Moonflower, that only blooms at night and smells amazing:
It's like a white Morning Glory but much bigger.

I've seen white layouts in books/catalogs.
I don't do all white, but I love white flowers b/c I mostly see my garden at night, unfortunately.

Re: Gardening - what do you want to know? [FB page]
When is the best time to trim back different plants.
Speaking of which, once the flower dies on a tulip or daffodil but there is still a green stalk and leaves, can you trim them down to the ground and the bulb survive to the next year? Or do I need to leave them alone until the stalk and leaves turn yellow?

Re: Gardening - what do you want to know? [FB page]
First I have to because when my first gardening question of the season came up, I'm still very new to this, my first thought was... I was on the NSP today at 6 am when I thought of it.
"I have to FM greenfreak" And I don't even know you
This is AWESOME!!!
OK, here's my question.... berries? Strawberries? Best to plant in containers?? How fragile are they? When do I plant them? Etc, etc.
I'm asking because I only buy organic strawberries. As my kids eat A LOT of them I thought it might just be easier to grow some.

Re: Gardening - what do you want to know? [FB page]
Thanks again! I need to figure out how to get other gardeners on there to comment and make suggestions on things. I kind of wanted it to be a back-and-forth, not just me telling people stuff I know.
Do you think it would be wrong to advertise my page on the FB gardening groups?
By the way - tulip and daffodil foliage should be left alone until they yellow and dry out. The leaves are what feeds the bulb so it can replenish it's strength for next season. If you cut, you may not get as many next year, or they may be shorter.
I knew someone who rubberbanded hers to keep them tidy. I'm just going to plant something in front of them so they camouflage the yellowing foliage.
Jen, yes the ones in the album are mine.

How about vegetable patches? Can you do a piece on that?
We want to grow corn, cucumber and beans, but don't know how to plant them, etc.

I like it too. Id love to consult with you when we start our gardening - though I may have to wait until after we redo our roof and siding. I don't want hard work to get trampled on.
