I just got a tulip plant as a gift and its in a container of dirt. I would like to plant it outside because Im not into indoor plants. I have NEVER planted anything before. We are in a new house. Can anyone offer advice on planting the tulip?

Plant it in a sunny place and it will come back late next spring/early summer. Chat Icon

water it when you transplant it, but tulips are pretty hardy - whatever rain comes should be enough.

Dig a hole in the ground a little deeper than the pot. Then put some dirt back in it (it's now been loosened) so that the hole is as deep as the pot.

Hold the pot in one hand and kind of squeeze from the bottom so that the whole thing pops out of the plastic container. You might have to tap it on the bottom a little, but it should pop out pretty easily. Loosen the root ball just a little - for just a couple of seconds - with your fingers so the roots aren't in tight circles. Put it in the hole, smooth out the dirt a little, and water. Voila!
