NPR: Gardening Question..maybe you girls know..
We want to fill terracotta pots with water and flowers from our local market for the shower but not sure you can just fill those with water or do you have to put soil in them?? Does it seep through?? May sound like a silly question but I am not sure..thanks!

I would think you would need to put soil in the pot because they usually have a drainage hole at the bottom of the pot so that water doesn't sit in it and rot the plant

I think the first thing you need to find out is if the pots have holes on the bottom or not. Also, do you mean cut flowers or actually potted flowers? If you mean cut flower then you can put them right in the pot if it doesn't have a hole in the bottom or you will have to find some way to plug up the hole.

Clay pots are pourous, whether they have a drainage hole or not. If you just put water in them, they will not seep but they may sweat and not be the best presentation if you're using them as a centerpiece on a table. They do sell clay pots that are glazed on the outside, those would work better. Can you collect glass jars, soak off the labels and put the cut flowers in them?
