Gassy and constipated newborn
DS is 1 week old and seems very gassy. I have been using the mylicon drops but wondering if there is anything else I can do that will help more.
For the first few days he pooped several times a day, now he hasn't pooped in a day. Can I use a small piece of a suppository to help him go? Or is there something else?

Re: Gassy and constipated newborn
I remembered ped telling me to use the rectal thermometer to stir things up
I also used Gripe water and that seemed to help
I also switched formula. I was using Similac Advance and switched to Similac Sensitive

Pro-biotics
Do a search with my name and pro biotics and you'll read all about why they are so important in newborns!

i tried all those things - the combination seems to be helping, but only doing 1 of them didn't do anything.

Re: Gassy and constipated newborn
Call your Ped. If it's only a day then you should wait. I wanted to switch DS to a more sensitive formula, but since he wasn't too bad (mostly gassy) the Ped said to wait b/c his stomach had to get used to digesting. THey don't like to switch to a sensitive formula too quick so that they don't get digestive problems later on.
Anyway... ask your Ped. I waited 2 days then did the thermometer trick. That worked. Also, DS is 3.5 months old now and fine with the Similac Advance. I never switched. Still gets gassy, but it's not bad at all. I also use the milycon drops

ITA.
I waited til Christopher was 8 weeks old and that is when we switched to Gentlease and he was fine.
I think that people/peds switch formulas around so much lately that it doesn't really let the baby get used to it, KWIM?

Re: Gassy and constipated newborn
Our Ped. recommended to try the Little Tummies gas drops instead of Mylicon. She actually said sometimes the Mylicon can cause more gas( makes no sense ) but the day we changed the drops we saw HUGE difference in daughters whole personality! She wasn't tightening her legs, screaming or gassy!

Re: Gassy and constipated newborn
OMG You must try Gentlease..it is the miracle formula! I have had a lot of success with this product.
It has partially broken down proteins and reduced lactose to help eliminate gas and be easier for babies to digest.
It is the only one on the market - similac sensative is actually a renamed lactose free product which the AAP does not recommend. Not to mention Similac products are the only formulas on the market w/o the recommended DHA levles

ITA! We had this issue with DD#2 (mylicon worked fine for DD#1) We did the thermomter everyday, gripe water everyday. Switching formulas was necessary for us since she has milk protein allergies. Now that she's getting older (3 mos) and gets her gripe water every day she's not in as much pain from the gas

This is exactly what Ped said to me. I'm glad I didn't switch formulas. All babies at the start will have digestive issues. You just need give them some time. As far as pain relief I would rub his tummy, leg pull ups, pain relief drops (in every meal) if you skip it will not work as well. i did the drops up to 3 weeks and he now doesn't need them. He's doing just fine with similac advance
