newborn moms, can we talk "tummy time"?

how often and for how long do you do it?

what do you do during that time?

DD hates being on her tummy, so i find myself doing it less than i probably should...

I lay him on my chest and we hang out that way. If he starts to fuss, I'll rub his back. We lay on the couch and do TT probably 3/4 times a day for a few minutes each time.
I have tried the playmat a few times and he either cries or falls asleep.
I also have been letting him nap on his belly the last couple weeks.

I only do it once a day and I do it for as long as he will tolerate it. SOmetimes he will last 10 minutes other times he will last 2. I put him on his playmat and put down little toys for him to look at.

DD loves it, we started with 5-10mins a day....she picks up her head A LOT during it and usually ends up falling asleep...She now loves sleeping on her belly

We prob do it once a day on the mat for about 5 min (or a little longer if she can last it without getting mad) and 2-3 times a day on our chests, prob totaling about 15 min a day. She still HATES tummy time on the mat.

Re: newborn moms, can we talk "tummy time"?

DD naps on her tummy during the day, I prop her up on her boppy for a little while every day and on the play mat. She also lays on my chest for quite some time each day.

To be honest- with everything I just listed, it probably equals an hour or two each day. She's awesome at lifting her head/upper body and heas fantastic strength. She seems to enjoy it all!Chat Icon

We don't do it nearly enough...but she has amazing neck strength already! I think she gets enough tummy time being carried around all day!Chat Icon I really have to do it more often though.

We do it a lot... probably 3-4 times a day either on DH or my chest or on the mat or the boppy. She likes it and has great head/neck control at 5 weeks old!

Re: newborn moms, can we talk "tummy time"?

sorry to crash but...

I was so worried about AJ and tummy time as a newborn. She hated it passionately. I barely got 2mins in and she'd get mad and cry. She was ok laying on my chest and every now and then she'd let me lay her in her crib on her belly. No toy, mat or game would work to keep her on her belly.

At 3months she went to daycare and they tried (and failed) to get her into tummy time.

So if you are having problems... you are NOT alone! lol Chat Icon

Just thought I'd share.Chat Icon

he loves tummy time. we play on the activity mat for about 5 mins a day, but he also naps on his tummy. he sleeps better (i think it makes his gas pains go away)

A few times a there for a couple of mins. The Ped said twice a day for 10 mins, but 10 mins is a lot longer than you think. Especially when DS starts to get fussy. They do it at the daycare once in a while too.

Re: newborn moms, can we talk "tummy time"?

I do it with DD probably twice a day for a few minutes at a time, either on a playmat or the boppy or in her crib. She pretty much hates it though and does this screech every time we do it. not so much a cry but a screech like she is super frustrated. I hate doing it because of this. She has great head control though and pretty much has since she was about 4 weeks.
