LOVE LOVE LOVE it.....so shiny and natural looking
I only saw a couple reviews on here...anyone else have anything to share?
I'm a manicure junkie and go every couple of days because I can't stand a single chip...so i'm hoping to love this!

Re: Gel Manicure
My doc said it's fine...I still worry - but eat very healthy, don't dye my hair....so I just figured if I'm doing everything else as best I can that this shouldn't be terrible!

Re: Gel Manicure
Question - is this the same thing as a "color gel" manicure (NOT the UV gel?)
I wanted to try this, I don't mind spending the extra $$, but I don't want something that will ruin my nails.

Re: Gel Manicure
Its like nail polish....nothing more. Its coated on with a brush and you sit under a UV light.
I did it, and liked it but for some reason my nails turned to shiit! It was almost like I had tips on all over again.
My place wants to charge me $35. I may consider it when i go to Florida since I will be in water.

I found a place near my office that does it for $18. I am going to give it a try today, and see how I like it.

Re: Gel Manicure
I LOVED it when I used to do it. First time was right b4 mt wedding. Looked amazing!! It's a prefect french with a shine. No worries about chipping or anything. It stays for 3 weeks too!
After a year or so I took it off b/c I can't stand getting my nails done every few weeks. It just gets hard to keep up. I think I'll eventually do it again.
Glad you liked it!

I used to love my fills and gel manis, but I gave them up a long time ago. Too much of a time commitment for me. I will live vicariously through you!

Re: Gel Manicure
I stopped going b/c I didn't have time to sit there and soak it off anymore
plus being out in the cold- hanging open house signs - was wrecking them! my nails were breaking from the cold
it did take a month for my nails to be nice again after I took them off

I am kind of annoyed because when I went to get it done today the ladies at the salon told me there would be no damage to my nail... but they really filed the top (not as much as with tips but still) and I know it will take a while for them to be back to "normal" when I get it done.
It was $35, and to me it was worth it because they look amazing and normally my nails don't hold a manicure longer than 3 days no matter what, we'll see how these hold up.
Does anyone know if Fashion Nails in Wantagh still charges $20 for this?

i got this a month ago and love it!
but wow...you guys are getting charged $20-30????
it took an hour and a half the first time and about an hour the second because a few were lifting so she had to redo them. how long do your fills/fixes usually take?

Yup..they do.
that is where I was going..due to price. What happens is that you soak and the gel mani comes off but truth is....they take a file to get the leftover pcs off and sometimes peel some off..and that is ruining your nails.
My nail place claims that they dont do that but like Beth...it took a month for me to get my nails back to norm. i liked the concept so much but then again,..dont mind going in for weekly mani's

Re: Gel Manicure
gel manicure and a uv gel are slightly different
the gel manicure is a gel nail polish thats lasts alot longer than a regular polish

Re: Gel Manicure
I have gotten it twice. While it lasts a few days for me instead of chipping it just starts to peel off
So I dont think I will get it again..

Re: Gel Manicure
I just had a gel manicure today. I have had two in the past, and at the same nail salon, but this time the filing seemed overly rough and hurt a bit. I had mentioned this and the filing was more gentle, but once the gel was applied to the particular finger that had hurt, OMG the pain was bad! The manicurist removed it immediately and applied cold water but that made it worse. After a few minutes, the pain subsided. I needed a manicure, so I continued with a regular one. Well, hours later, my finger is still sensitive and tingly at times. This prompted me to do a search on gel manicures and found this. I wish I did my research sooner- I would have stopped the filing completely. if this continues tomorrow, I will go to my doctor right away. Hopefully it's nothing this time, but I will post a follow-up if it is. And, I will either stick to regular manicures or make sure I see the process another nail salon is doing before I have another one done myself.

Re: Gel Manicure
I went on Sunday to get a mani/pedi and the woman next to me was getting the UV Gel manicure. We were talking and she said she loved it. The nail person then told us that they just got a new kind in (not the OPI Gel) and it will not require you to soak when you come in next time but rather will come off like it would with a regular manicure. The lady and I both decided to go with that option. It was $25. So far my nails are holding up great. I'll let you know how it goes in two weeks......
ETA: they also did not file down my nails. They just buffed over them like they would for a regular manicure.

Re: Gel Manicure
My nails got totally WRECKED from doing this..
I will NEVER EVER put anything on my nails again.. Anything you put on them will weaken them.. period.
I will stick to natural and just manicures..
