Gel vs Shellac manicure Updated I got duped from the salon
I love the OPI gel manicures and get them all the time but have not found a place close to my house to have done. There is a place that does shellac(sp?) manicure just wondering what the difference is and if it is worth it to try instead? Thanks
So I was so excited to get my first shellac manicure. I told the woman when I went in what I wanted and we had a whole conversation about it. So then I pick a color and Im staring at the shellac polishes and she never touches them. She used a base and top coat that was the brand "galaxy" and then used an OPI gel polish!!! I was so mad and was about to say something but didn't. I would think that when you get a "shellac" manicure that the products they use would be by the same brand right? I mean the sign specifically said SHELLAC!

I have done both and prefer the Shellac because I feel it's less harsh on my nails when they take it off.
I felt like when they took they Gel off they had to scrape the nail bed whereas the Shellac kind of peels off.
I also think the Shellac has more shine.

I agree with all of this. Sometimes the gel looked cloudy to me, while Shellac was always super shiny.

Yes last just as long...maybe slightly longer. And just as many colors.

The shellac is gel in the bottle vs. OPI gel they are still dipping the brush in the powder then applying. The shellac is quicker and in my experience comes off easier like someone else said (peels off)

I had a few gel manicures -- the first two were terrific, lasted 2 weeks easily. The third didn't look great after a week, and on the fourth my nails looked horrible. I had them take off the fourth one after two weeks, and my nails are SO damaged it is not even funny.

I am thinking of getting Shellac soon
My SIL gets it and said it's great, lasts up to 3 weeks and doesn't damage her nails
I have heard the gel really damages the nails and isn't always as long lasting (esp the OPI gel)
I am just sick of my nails chipping EVERY.SINGLE.DAY
My nails look like shit all the time- I need to do something that lasts

I know how you feel I try to keep my nails nice and painted but it's such a pain in the a$$!! I actually really liked the OPI gel but I will let you know about the Shellac!
