Gender and BD Timing Question from TTCer
Hi Ladies....Congrats on your pregnancy and many wishes for a happy, healthy baby. I have a question for those of you who know your baby's gender. I recently learned about male sperm being fast but short-lived and female sperm living longer but traveling slower. I'm really curious about your conception date in relation to your BD schedule. Do you know which BD led to your conception? And do you think there's any truth to the theory that less sex during ovulation produces a girl while more frequent sex (ie every other day) will give you a boy? I know there's no surefire way to predict this but I'm just curious to see if there's any indication of truth. Thanks so much for reading and even more for responding.

Re: Gender and BD Timing Question from TTCer
honestly, i think all of those theories are hooey.
for both pregnancies we BD'd every other day from around day 10 to day 18 of my cycle. first time around, we conceived a boy. this time it's a girl.
sure, i could have ovulated on different days of my cycle, leading to different sexes. but i just don't think you can have that much control over it...

Re: Gender and BD Timing Question from TTCer
yes, it is a medical fact that the boy swimmers are faster but live a shorter time than girl swimmers
so if you want a boy, your best chance is to BD as close to O as possible...it is not fool proof of course but it is medically true

Re: Gender and BD Timing Question from TTCer
that method is called the shettles method. My sister had 3 girls and wanted to try for a boy and did the shettles method and got her boy!
The female carries an X chromosome, the male carries either a X or Y chromosome. The Y chromosome sperm(male) is faster but less resiliant (they die faster and have less chance of survivial with acidic enviorment)than the X chromosome sperm The X chromosome is slower but are stronger.
So if u are trying for a boy u have intercourse as close to ovulation as u can. If u have intercourse 4-5 days b4 ovulation ur chances of having a boy decrease bc X chromosome sperm are probally still alive and waiting for the egg. If ur trying to for a girl u should have intercourse b4 ovulation. HTH!!!
