Question about finding out gender of baby
What would be the soonest one can fiind out? My SIL found out very early, (14 weeks) but I think the norm is around 19 weeks. Has anyone found out the gender sooner? The suspense is killing me and I have so many more weeks to go!!!! ahhhhh XOXOXO BOTB

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
I found out at 17 1/2 weeks. I was seen in the ER for something unrelated and they did a full check on the baby and she just happened to be sitting perfectly for them to see it was a . It was confirmed at 21wks at my Level II.

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
I spoke with an experienced sono tech at my job.. and she said many techs can tell you they know the sex at early weeks.. but they are actually guessing. She said the best and most accurate week is the 20th week.

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
Well I guess it could have been a guess but I think in this picture it was pretty apparent it was a boy . SHe had said at first she was 80% sure but by the end of the sono she had seen it so many times she was 95% sure.
Sorry it's backwards but it is from my 12 week u/s sono. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
At 14 weeks they didn't see anything, so the tech guessed it was a girl (and seemed pretty confident). At 16 weeks, they confirmed girl when they saw the 3 lines.

it's better to wait and be sure. a lot of times the parts can look similar too early on. that's why i waited until my level 2 to even ask.

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
The tech took an "educated guess" for us during my 12 week ultrascreen and she was right - .

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
at my ultrascreen the baby was measuring 13w 3d and the sono tech wouldn't even take a guess...darn! I guess I will have to be a little more patient.

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
I wondered this too........I've seen some tv shows lately (and yeah, I know it's only TV and fake!) where they find out super-early-on, so I was going to ask this very same question!

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
You may find out at 12 weeks, but there isn't much difference between male and female genetalia at that point. You could find out several weeks later that the tech's guess was wrong. That's why many techs won't even guess the sex that early.

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
I asked during my ultrascreen but no guessing from that tech. We're going on Thursday for our anatomy scan at 19w 1 d and hoping to find out then.

Re: Question about finding out gender of baby
Sometimes they can make a good guess at 12 weeks and be right -- but be careful. I know someone who was told at 12 weeks, only to find out at 20 weeks.
