Genetics Testing
I have to set up my appointment at Madonna for genetics ultrasound. What will they do there? Blood test again even thought I just gave 12 vials a couple days ago at Quest? Also will they tell me anything or do I wait to hear from my OB?

Re: Genetics Testing
Also I'm so panicked about giving more blood that I'm starting to think should I even go for it? My sister was surprised I opted for it since I'm 26. I should still go right?

Is there a reason you're going in for genetics testing? I never did it with either pregnancy and no one ever mentioned it to me.

Did your dr tell you you need genetic testing. As far as I know it has nothing to do with age. What test is it exactly?

Re: Genetics Testing
Are you going to Madonna for the ultrascreen/NT scan? I had to go to Madonna for that. The bloodwork portion is just a fingerprick. The sono tech probably won't tell you much. My OB went over the results at my next scheduled appointment.

I'm assuming you mean the ultrascreen, which is standard regardless of age. It's just a finger prick and then an ultrasound.

Oh that makes sense if that's what it is.

Oh so it's the NT scan. Totally common, optional, but I believe a majority do it.
Super simple - sonogram where they measure the neck fold of the baby (who now looks like an actual baby!!) and also look for a nasal bone. It also involves a simple finger prick. No vials or anything like that.
When/how you get the results depends on your practice. Mine does the sono and then the fingerprick. If everything is fine, they don't call. With my first pregnancy, I called after a week just to make sure because I was waiting for the results so I could announce. This time I just waited the week and then announced. They never even went over the results at my next appointment. They just said everything looked great.
Some practices will do the finger prick and sono at separate appointments.
ETA: You need to get it done within a specific time frame which I believe is within 11-13 weeks of pregnancy.
Also I wanted to add that many choose not to do this test because the results aren't 100% accurate. You can come back as high risk for Downs or another chromosomal disorder but upon further testing, everything is fine.
There is also a second part in the 2nd trimester where they will do another finger prick.
