i would just keep an eye on him while he eats them...just until he gets the hang of chewing them himself.

Re: Gerber Puffs...

I started giving them to Julia around 5-6 months, I would brake them in 1/2 until she got use to eating them, I gave her a whole one once and she almost choked on it....Chat Icon

Re: Gerber Puffs...

I break them up for him now, and he's almost 8 months but I just have a feeling he wouldn't be able to deal with a whole one. I'll break them into bigger pieces every few days until we work up to a whole one. He's got 4 teeth on the bottom and 1 (almost 2) on top but I still feel he would not know to chew the puffs ....

Re: Gerber Puffs...

Kaitee has 8 teeth but doesn't use them when she eats puffs. I put one in her mouth a few days ago (she feeds them to her self normally) and she bit down with her front teeth and it made a cruch noise and she made a funny face. She chews with her gums.

Re: Gerber Puffs...

I gave them to Molly at 1 year old. There is really no nutritional value in them so I gave them to her as a little treat.

There's no value in them as a food, but it's a great way to get them to start to feed themselves and also encourage their pincer grasp.

I gave some to Dom the other day. I broke off little pieces and gave them to him.

I def don't think Dom is ready for the whole piece yet, I was scared even giving the little pieces!
My Dr said I am allowed to give eggs in 2 weeks and I can't imagine him eating that!

Re: Gerber Puffs...

Wow, I'm so glad to hear that a lot of you started at 6 months. DD is REALLY interested in table foods and she's almost 6 months. I was nervous about starting with her, but now I know that puffs will be safe. I didn't give DS puff until he was 8 months. I guess I was overly paranoid.Chat Icon

5-6 months but i would cut them into smaller pieces. It was also a great way for her to learn to pick up small pieces and bring them to her mouth.
