Getting a wisdom tooth out
How bad was it? Were you sick for a day or 2?

Re: Getting a wisdom tooth out
I got three out at the same time and it was nothing. I came home and took a nap then woke up and took a tylenol with codine. After that i was fine and was taking regular tylenol for a day or two and I had to eat soft foods for about 3-4 days. Don't worry - its not that bad

Re: Getting a wisdom tooth out
i just went last week! how many are you getting out?
first bottom one i had an awful experience by a dentist...but my second, third, and 4th times were much better with an oral surgeon!
count on a couple days on vicodin, and difficulty eating, but it wasn't awful.
I took 2 days off work, but I probably could've gone back the next day. If you follow the icing directions you shouldn't swell too badly.

Re: Getting a wisdom tooth out
I had all 4 of mine out at once. 2 were impacted.....I was more afraid of the being put out while having it done, so I did it with only novacaine. I had about 20 shots of novicaine (you only feel the first four because you start to get numb).
I was fine afterwards, but once the novacaine wore off, I was sore. They gave me pain killers...which I took for a day or two. I wasn't even swollen.
It's really not that big of a deal. Of course, everyone has different experiences, but mine was pretty good.
Good luck!

Re: Getting a wisdom tooth out
I got half without being put to sleep and I was out for about a week (I think one was impacted?)
the other half I was put out. I had it done on a Saturday and was at work Monday - just couldn't eat much besides applesauce
Stay far away from RICE! I learned the hard way

Re: Getting a wisdom tooth out
Everyone is different, but mine was ok. I didn't need the Vicodin that was prescribed, Tylenol was enough.

It's not a sharp pain...it's a dull radiating pain that gives you a headache

Re: Getting a wisdom tooth out
Thanks for posting this topic -- I mine are impacted and I'm scared, I'm a BIG baby when it comes to this.
nov04libride or anyone, What are the "icing directions"?
Also any good recommendations for Oral Surgeons that are located near Middle Village, Queens or Mid-town Manhattan and take Cigna?

Re: Getting a wisdom tooth out
I got all four of mine out at the same time. It felt like pressure when they were coming out. Honestly - the shot of novicaine hurt more. (it was the first time I ever had novaciane and I was more scared of the big needle going in my gums). After the novacaine wore up, it hurt, but wasn't unbearable. The worst thing was that it took a long time for the bleeding to stop and it was gross having the cotton shoved in my mouth. I tried taking some of the vicodin they prescribed, but I felt really wierd on it, so took the prescription ibruprofen, and that was fine.

Ice 20 mins on, 20 mins off RELIGIOUSLY the ENTIRE DAY OF SURGERY! Must be 20 mins on, 20 off. The first dentist I had said to ice constantly, and I swelled and got lock jaw! Must be 20 mins on, 20 mins off. I actually used frozen peas.

Re: Getting a wisdom tooth out
I only had one out and it was a top one- not impacted. I know that's the easiest scenario out there- I was back at work the next day and NOT one bit of swelling- didn't even need to ice. I have to get a bottom one out and I know that will be a bit worse!

Re: Getting a wisdom tooth out
Depends.... women usually get over it rather easy. Men (i.e. my DH) usually take about a month to get over it
