Getting glasses?

The time has come for me to accept I need glasses. I don't know what's wrong with my vision but I do know that the glasses you can buy at CVS make it worse. I can't see distance. I can't read road signs at night.

Do I go to an opthalmologist or just a lenscrafters or something? Which way does it work out better with insurance coverage with glasses? I know we have a separate vision policy but I didn't know if my regular UHC policy would just cover an opthalmologist as it is an MD.

Also, how long does it take to get glasses? Will I get them that same day or is it something I need to wait for?

Re: Getting glasses?

You prob just need the glasses for distance. You can get an exam at lens crafters,Pearle, etc. they will determine your prescription and you can get glasses there or somewhere else. Just bring the prescription to where you buy the glasses.

Most health insurances don’t include vision. Only damage to the eye like if you were in a car accident and glass damaged your eye.

Look at your vision insurance in network list as you usually get more money towards exam, frames and lenses using an in network provider.

I got mine recently from war by Parker. Out of network but they are cheap so it was mostly covered.

I also have contacts but wear glasses a lot more often.

It usually takes a week or 2 to make them. Depends on if you need special lenses or something like that. Def get the scratch resistance and blue light if you plan to wear them while working.

Re: Getting glasses?

If you are having trouble with distance, the readers at CVS won't help, you are right. Those are for close up, reading etc

So if you have a separate vision plan you'd go through that to a place like Davis Vision or whoever they cover and you'd be seen by an optometrist.

Your medical will cover an MD- Ophthalmologist- but usually if you have a vision plan they want you to use that for routine eye exams and glasses and only go to the MD if you are having medical issues with your eyes- pink eye, cataracts, glaucoma, medical eye problems. I know my insurance won't cover me seeing an MD for a routine distance eye exam. They want me to use the vision benefit via Davis Vision/Vision works

It takes about a week or so to get your glasses- they are usually sent out to be made in an offsite lab

Thanks for explaining the insurance thing! I wasn't sure how that worked. I will check it out when I get home.

Getting glasses?

I go for yearly eye exam with an ophthalmologist (MD). He gives me my script and then I go to a local eye glass store to get glasses. Usually takes a few days. I use my vision plan to pay for part of the frames and lenses (doesn’t cover the whole cost even if I go in network).
