Getting my 6 month old on a schedule....

How do I get DD on a schedule? She goes to bed at 8:30pm & wakes up anywhere between 6-7:30 most of. Time. Every now & then she will wake around 5am & then go back for 3 more hours until 8am. She usually needs a nap around 2 hrs after she wakes up but since that initial makeup varies then her feeding times vary & naps later that day vary. Is there anything I can do to grt her on a schedule? It's also not helping at lately she has been digging naps in the daytime, even when she is so tired she can barely keep her eyes open. Any advice? TIA! Chat Icon

Re: Getting my 6 month old on a schedule....

Honestly, I just go with the flow. DS kind of made his own schedule. Wake up at 8:30 drinks milk then gets fruit nap at 12-2pm stays up until 5pm then naps for about 30mins-1hr up at 6pm then he gets dinner. He kind of made his own time schedule I just went with it. Hes pretty consistent with his naps and he STTN...so, just follow her cues. That being said, it doesnt always happen the way I say. Sometimes he doesnt get his fruit because he doesnt want it and sometimes he chooses to not nap and so I give him fruit around 1pm...again, just going with the follow.

Getting my 6 month old on a schedule....

I asked some moms the same question about a month ago and one asked me why I wanted to have a schedule anyway. I really couldn't come up with a reason. We made it 5 months without one and were doing fine. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I liked the flexibility of not having a rigid schedule. I go by her cues but I can also manipulate things when I need to if we have something going on. Since then, she's gotten somewhat more consistent on her own anyway but since she sometimes gets up early or late it does vary. I also figure I don't want to wake up, eat, or go to bed at the same time every day so she probably doesn't either.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I figured I'd share a different perspective.

Wow.. You are right. I just asked myself why I think I want her on a schedule & really couldn't come up with an answer lol! I guess you are right! & I DO like that she is flexible with eating/naps if we have to go somewhere. Very good point! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Getting my 6 month old on a schedule....

I have to agree with going with the flow. With my first DD, I had everything on a schedule and would be late or miss things cause it was, "DD's nap time." When it neared that time, she would get super cranky cause it was always scheduled at that time and she was ready to go down for a nap. I was a slave to naptime and would plan things accordingly.

I swore to myself that the next DC would not be scheduled.

Well, I have DD #2 now and she is 5 months old. I just go with the flow and couldn't be more happy :) I am very active with DD#1 and we are often out somewhere. DD#2 has learned to nap almost anywhere and anytime. I feel as though my day is not planned around her nap schedule. :)

I would just follow your DC's cues :0
